Brad Pitt Gets Support From Old Friend Melissa Etheridge Amid His Divorce Ordeal With Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt kept his silence amid all the accusations of child abuse and cheating, but the Fury actor received unsolicited support from an old friend, rocker Melissa Etheridge.

During an interview on SiriusXM Radio with Andy Cohen, as shared by Us Weekly, she expressed her sympathies over what happened and insisted that the Pitt she knows could not possibly have committed all the things he was accused of doing.

“It breaks my heart that anyone would take something as personal as your marriage and your relationship and your rights to your children and do it as purposefully as I see it’s being done,” she said.

She also blamed Angelina Jolie and her attorneys for portraying Pitt as a bad guy in order to get the upper hand in the negotiations over the divorce and custody of the children. Etheridge said that she underwent a messy divorce herself so she knows what that’s like.

“I’ve been twice around this block, and I know it really well, and I know when there’s some forethought to just how mean and just how you’re going to put disinformation out there first,” she added.

The singer also said that she hasn’t seen Pitt in a decade. “I really hope that he reaches back out,” she said. “There are a lot of us who haven’t seen him in 10 years, it was hard then. We all lost a friend.”

And just to be clear where her loyalty lies, Etheridge shared an anecdote about Jolie and former husband Billy Bob Thornton apparently abusing his former live-in girlfriend, Laura Dern, when they were just starting out their romance.

She added that at one point, she helped Dern move out of the house she shared with Thornton. Due to the tension, she could not approach the actor so she “broke into their home to get their stuff out because it was so nasty.”

Jolie filed divorce papers on September 20. She is also asking the court for sole custody of her six children with Pitt, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and their twins Vivienne and Knox, eight.

Fox News noted that it wouldn’t be too surprising for Etheridge to show her support for Pitt considering that they are long-time friends. In fact, she sang at his wedding to Jennifer Aniston in 2000. There were also reports that she mulled over asking the actor to be a sperm donor.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been called in to verify the abuse claims against Pitt, which allegedly occurred during a flight from Paris to the US last month.

The FBI released a statement in connection to the case.

“In response to your inquiry regarding allegations within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States; specifically, an aircraft carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued.”

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Police Department clarified that Pitt is not under any kind of investigation for child abuse, but the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services told Vanity Fair that the department has no statement and that the law does not allow them to confirm or deny an investigation.

Pitt has yet to issue a statement in reaction to the child abuse allegation, as well as the reports of him cheating with his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard. The French actress, however, denied having an affair with the Fight Club actor.
