Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez just can’t seem to let go of each other, enduring multiple breakups and makeups throughout their off-again, on-again romantic relationship, all played out in the heat of the public spotlight. Recently, that heat intensified when Selena shocked everyone by leaping into Justin’s social media battle with his fans over his girlfriend Sofia Richie (with whom he has since split). Since that Instagram war, she announced she was taking time off, canceling her tour amid rumors of a “breakdown” followed by rehab. Is Bieber to blame, or did her diagnosis of lupus accompanied by depression, or even rumors of drugs, play a role?
Gomez is blaming Justin for her “breakdown,” a source told Life & Style.
Although Selena had previously revealed that she had been diagnosed with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease for which there is no cure, the insider contends that the drama of her relationship with Bieber contributed to the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer’s problems.
Consequently, Gomez is describing 2016 as “one of the worst years of her life,” with Bieber taking the heat for her problems, according to this source. Although she said the cancellation of her “Revival World Tour” was to give her time to focus on her health, the insider revealed that Selena is feeling “backed into a corner” by Justin because of the way that he constantly affects her.
The source also solved the mystery of why Gomez chose to involve herself in Bieber’s Instagram battle with his fans over his photos of Sofia Richie.
“It was really hard for her,” explained the insider.
“[Selena] saw Justin looking so happy and that really sent her into a downward spiral.”
And that’s not the only report that links Bieber to his former girlfriend’s struggles.
While acknowledging that Gomez has lupus, In Touch reports that the combination of her “unhealthy” relationship with Bieber and “constant partying” contributed to her “breakdown.”
Lupus is key in her struggles, but Justin and her “partying” are exacerbating her problems, a source told In Touch. Consequently, when Selena learned about Bieber’s romance with Sofia, she had a “meltdown,” revealed the insider. And even though Justin has since split up with Richie, he reportedly has continued to ignore Gomez and her problems, making matters even worse, according to the source.
“The more [Bieber] ignored [Selena], the more she freaked out.”
Us Weekly also confirmed that Justin continues to affect Gomez’s emotions.
Selena, 24, became so determined to cut off Bieber, 22, from contacting her that she even changed her phone number, a source told Us.
Justin and the “Same Old Love” singer have sustained their on-again, off-again romance since 2011. Now Gomez has taken an unusual step to try to end it permanently by changing her phone number, revealed the insider.
“[Selena] told everyone not to give [her new phone number] to [Justin].”
In addition, the source links her motivation for cutting off contact with Bieber to their Instagram war in mid-August, when Gomez advised Justin not to post photos of himself with his new girlfriend.
“It should be special between you two only,” she recommended.
Bieber then attacked his former girlfriend for allegedly cheating on him with Zayn Malik.
“Oh I forgot about You and Zayn?” he questioned.
The result of that war caused the emotionally “fragile” singer even more problems, according to the insider.
“Selena lost it. She can be fragile emotionally and Justin is a major factor.”
Consequently, after canceling her “Revival Tour” due to emotional issues related to lupus, including anxiety, “panic attacks and depression,” Gomez is focusing on her mental health, added the source.
As for the drug rumors, Radar Online initially reported that Selena “had begun using a potentially deadly cocktail of Lunesta, Ambien, Klonopin and Xanax” prior to an intervention that resulted in rehab. But now, in a follow-up, Radar cites an insider who revealed that although Gomez has checked into rehab, her stay is not related to drug abuse.
Selena is staying at a rehab facility on the East Coast, where she has been since early September to get help for her physical and emotional health, according to the source, who emphasized that it is not for treatment linked to drug abuse. She will remain at the treatment center, which is for women only, for more than 60 days.
With depression and lupus both contributing to her struggles, Gomez may have chosen that center because it has a “Christianity-based track, which might have been appealing given her religious background,” noted the insider. Her two-month visit to the facility will include “intense therapy sessions.”
