Jill Duggar Responds To Concerns About Her Husband’s Health, Derick Dillard Gets A New Job

Jill Duggar wants her fans to know that Derick Dillard is getting plenty to eat, thank you very much. The Counting On couple is currently taking a lengthy vacation from working on the mission field in El Salvador, and they’re making sure to fill up on their favorite snacks while they’re back home in Arkansas. Jill’s husband is also using his break to shape a few young minds — Derick recently revealed that he’s found work as a substitute teacher.

On Sunday, Derick Dillard shared an Instagram photo of a very American snack: three fried Oreo cookies in a bowl. The cookies were sitting next to an open container of ranch dressing, but Derick later commented on the photo to let his followers know that he was dipping pizza in the dressing, not the sweet treats.

“Ahh… Nothing quite like a good bowl of fried Oreos for a bedtime snack! #nofilter,” Derick captioned the photo.

Jill Duggar responded to her husband’s junk food photo by jokingly referencing the persistent rumors that Derick is in ill health.

“lol just wondering what people will say about your diet now?????#watchingcomments#cheapentertainment,” Jill wrote.

As the Hollywood Gossip reports, many fans of the Duggar family have expressed concern that Derick Dillard looks too thin in some of the social media photos that he and Jill have shared.

“Derick looks very sick, and undernourished. Looks like his hair is falling out as a result as well,” one fan wrote in response to the Instagram photo below that Jill Duggar posted on July 4.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, some fans speculated that Derick Dillard’s thinner frame was the result of the painful mouth surgery that he underwent last April. Others thought that he was suffering from an illness that was causing him to lose weight or that he was doing too much fasting for religious reasons.

However, Jill Duggar has tried to provide photographic evidence that her husband isn’t starving to death. Last month, she shared a picture of Derick chowing down on spaghetti pie during a dinner date. Derick also proved that he was getting plenty to eat in El Salvador by sharing a photo of Jill and himself picking up some buffalo wings at a Pollo Campero fast food restaurant. The Counting On camera crew even joined in on the effort to convince fans that Derick eats by filming Jill and Derick filling up on food at a buffet during their anniversary date in El Salvador.

Derick isn’t spending all his free time snapping Instagram photos of his food and styling his man bun while he’s in the states. According to the Duggar Family Blog, he’s also working as a substitute teacher at Springdale High School.

“It felt good to be back in the classroom this week, subbing at SHS!” Derick wrote on Instagram.

According to Teaching-certification.com, the only requirement for being a traditional substitute teacher in Arkansas is a high school diploma or GED. Derick hasn’t revealed how long he plans on working as a substitute, but he has revealed that he’s balancing teaching classes with attending classes — in a July 16 post on the Dillard Family website, Derick revealed that he and Jill Duggar are taking Bible classes before they return to El Salvador.

As the Stir reports, Jill Duggar has also found work during her stay in the states. Last month, she made use of her lay midwife certification to help another midwife with a home birth. However, Jill’s assistance stirred up some controversy. As reported by the Inquisitr, the midwife Jill aided, Venessa Giron, lost her license to practice midwifery in Arkansas after botching the delivery of a baby girl who was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Before that incident, Jill had received most of her midwife training from Venessa.

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard haven’t told their fans exactly how long they intend on remaining in the U.S., but they’re not treating their time back like a short vacation. In a recent episode of Counting On, Jana Duggar was also shown redecorating the massive two-story guest house for Jill, Derick, and their son, Israel. This makes it seem as though the Dillards are settling in for a pretty lengthy stay.
