‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Spoilers: A Shocking Marriage, Rhaegar’s Appearance, And A Spinoff Series?

The upcoming Game of Thrones Season 7 does not only bring excitement but it also serves as a dreadful reminder that there are only 13 episodes left in HBO’s well-loved fantasy series. Time is indeed ticking and fans are getting more and more eager on how the writers will end the story of the characters they have loved and loathed since April 2011.

Game of Thrones Season 6 featured the reunion of Jon Snow and Sansa Stark. The latest theory making rounds is that the two are destined to tie the knot. Game of Thrones fan and vlogger Alt Shift X presented his theory that has been backed up by evidence from George R.R. Martin’s novels.

The YouTube user points out that Sansa’s relationships in the books have always been arranged. She was betrothed to several men including Joffrey Baratheon and Loras Tyrell (Willas Tyrell in the novels) and had been married to Tyrion Lannister and Ramsay Bolton. He posits that the order of Sansa’s “suitors” corresponds to the order of the five champions’ houses that were named in the Ashford Tournament, a key occurrence in Martin’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Alt Shift X claims that the final champion labeled in the tournament was none other than Valarr Targaryen. Since Jon turns out to be Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen’s son, he could be the final man in Sansa’s life although some find the idea disconcerting because the two grew up identifying each other as siblings.

It is also rumored that Rhaegar will make an appearance in Game of Thrones Season 7. The speculations started when musician Devin Oliver shared a photo on Instagram hinting about his participation in the show.

Devin’s photo shows him with a man bun as well as a bow and arrow. Fans started to think about the character he would play. Some theorized that he might be Rhaegar because the fictional character has a penchant for music. Rhaegar might appear in the upcoming season during flashbacks about the Targaryen family. Now that Jon and Daenerys will soon cross paths, it is only normal for the two to yearn for stories about their roots.

A possible flashback might include Rhaegar and how he wooed Lyanna. His appearance can likewise reveal secrets about the Targaryen family. Ever since the show started, fans only got the opportunity to have glimpses of Daenerys’ father, Mad King Aerys, and her brother Viserys.

Realizing that his teasing worked, Devin repeated the act to further intrigue fans.

Meanwhile, it appears that HBO is interested in continuing the Game of Thrones universe. HBO programming president Casey Bloys revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that “there are so many properties and areas to go to.”

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have previously declared that they wouldn’t want to be on board should there be a potential spinoff series. Bloys acknowledged what they’ve said, but still believes that they might be involved along the way.

As insistent as Benioff and Weiss have been that they’re done with Westeros after Thrones, Bloys seems to think it’s still possible that they’ll be involved in a spinoff.

“It’s a big, big commitment for them, not just their creative force, but also their family life. They’re gone for months at a time. So it’s a big, big thing. But should we find a property that makes sense as a spinoff or a prequel—whatever you want to say—I would not expect them to do it, because they’re going to need to decompress for a good amount of time, but it would certainly be nice to have their involvement in some way.”

Game of Thrones Season 7 will premiere later than expected in 2017 because the creative team wants to get the gloomiest backdrops possible.
