Samuel L. Jackson Attacks DC Extended Universe, Again

Samuel L Jackson has thrown the boot at DC, insisting that Marvel’s rivals have yet to make a movie that compares to the MCU.

Jackson made these remarks to Collider, via Cinema Blend, admitting that he’s yet to be impressed by DC Extended Universe’s output, which has consisted of Man Of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and now Suicide Squad, each of which had their fare share of haters, especially when compared to the reception of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When quizzed about whether there’s enough space for the glut of superhero films that have been released over the last decade, Jackson not only insisted that there was, but also couldn’t resist the opportunity to thrown in a not-so-sly dig at the DCEU.

“I think there’s room for everyone to exist out here. The fact that it’s not working or doesn’t work, or people want a specific thing, that’s what makes the movies the movies and audiences audiences. Hopefully (DC) will make one of those movies one of these days and it’ll be as big as a Marvel movie.”

But rather than being clearly pessimistic about the chances of the DCEU, the Marvel Cinematic Universe stalwart insisted that he hopes Wonder Woman will be good. Something that Warner Bros. themselves will be more than hoping for as their efforts have so far failed to ignite the cinematic community in the way that the studio had hoped.

Sure, Man Of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and Suicide Squad have made a combined total of $2.273 billion at the box office, which is a pretty impressive start, especially when you consider that it took Marvel five films to reach this total. But the critical reaction to these films means that there is more and more pressure on Warner Bros. and the DC Extended Universe to put out a film that pleases and delivers both critically and financially.

Samuel L. Jackson’s comments come just a few weeks after David Ayer, the writer and director of Suicide Squad, shouted out “f*** Marvel” at the premiere for the blockbuster, which he immediately apologized for as he recognized that he overstepped the mark.

But there hasn’t always been so much animosity between the folks over at Marvel and DC. In fact when out promoting Captain America: Civil War, Sebastian Stan, who portrays Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was one of the rare individuals who insisted that they enjoyed Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

“I did see Batman v Superman and I enjoyed it,” Stan said with a grin to the Daily Beast. “I think visually it was insane,” Stan added as he went into further detail about what he liked about the blockbuster. “I thought Ben Affleck was an incredible Batman. I thought that fight sequence he had against all the guys, that was sick. Even Jesse Eisenberg was cracking me up at some points.”

Stan continued, “I also think that DC is at a point right now where, it’s been my impression, they want to get to Justice League. They want to go ahead and kind of get everybody fighting together. And I think the best way to jumpstart that was to get what I think most people wanted to see for a long time: Batman vs. Superman, two of the biggest superheroes in history.”
