Hugh Hefner Dead? Rumors Circulate That 90-Year-Old ‘Playboy’ Founder Died In Mansion

Is Hugh Hefner dead?

That’s what a rumor going around seems to indicate, but the 90-year-old Playboy founder wants fans to know that he is alive and well.

The rumors began on Friday after the New York Post‘s Page Six gossip column indicated that the business magnate hadn’t been seen in public for months. The article, titled “‘Super sick’ Hugh Hefner holes up in Playboy mansion,” alleges that anyone wishing to see the Hefner has to sign a confidentiality agreement.

“He looks like he is down to around 90?pounds and super sick. His people are really trying to keep this under wraps. You even have to sign a confidentiality agreement to go up to see him.”

The rumors of Hefner’s death picked up so much steam, in fact, that the Los Angeles Police Department made a trip to Hugh’s famed Playboy Mansion in an effort to check on the 90-year-old.

There, officers discovered that Hefner was fine.

“Mr. Hefner spoke with an officer at the West LA station and confirmed he’s OK,” LAPD Officer Mike Lopez told local news stations. Additionally, Lopez said that the reports of Hefner’s condition were “greatly exaggerated.”

Later, Hefner himself confirmed that he was alive and well with his first tweet in more than a month. In the message sent out, Hefner indicated that he would spend the evening watching a movie with his 30-year-old wife, Crystal, whom he married in 2012.

Before his tweets on Saturday, Hefner had last tweeted on August 27, and before that way back in June. Clearly, Hefner is not known for his frequent social media use.

Hef’s reps also spoke out on the rumor that Hugh Hefner is dead, saying that it’s unclear where the rumor originated.

“Hugh Hefner is fine. It is no secret that over the past few years he has suffered with back pain that has made it a bit more challenging for him to get around, but at 90 years of age he is enjoying his life and still very involved in the day-to-day activities of editing the magazine.”

According to Gossip Cop, Hefner’s wife, Crystal, has yet to mention the incident on social media, but his son, Cooper, has spoken up on the rumors of Hugh Hefner’s death.

But still, sources report that Hef’s health is rapidly deteriorating and that he is not long for this world. According to Page Six, British model Carla Howe says that Hefner is “too sick” to attend the annual parties hosted at the Playboy Mansion.

“Hef is so frail, he goes everywhere with a group of nurses.”

Howe added that the Playboy editor-in-chief “never leaves home” and “goes to bed everyday at 7 p.m. after watching old movies.”

Hefner sold his famed Playboy compound in Holmby Hills in August to Daren Metropoulos, who is the co-owner of the baked snack company Hostess. Additionally, Metropoulos is the head of investment firm Metropoulos & Co.

The mansion, which was sold for $100 million, sits on five acres and has 12 bedrooms.
