DNCE: ‘Cake By The Ocean’ Climbs Back Up The Charts As Band Drops A New Hit

Joe Jonas and his band, DNCE, are showing you how to make your “Body Move.” DNCE’s latest single “Body Moves” is guaranteed to make you dance as it lives up to the group’s name. The band previously performed their new song weeks ago during their performance on the Today Show, but released the studio version on Friday, Sept. 30, as reported by Billboard. The new song is the lead single from their upcoming self-titled debut album, out on Nov. 18.

The song is a lot slower than DNCE’s previous singles “Cake by The Ocean” and “Toothbrush” from the band’s 2015 EP, Swaay. The song was immediately pulled offline and downloaded following the band’s Today Show performance, according to Idolator.

Earlier this week, DNCE teased their new song on social media – and they did it in a creative fashion. They teased “Body Move” with a 25-second video montage to some of the best dance scenes in popular movies.

We Got This Covered accidentally shared the full 3:56 version of the song earlier this week. The outlet has since removed the track at the request of the record label. WGTC also mentioned that they listened to DNCE’s other new songs from their upcoming album.

“Judging from live tracks performed by DNCE thus far, it sounds like there’s a lot to be excited for: ‘Good Day’ has a laid-back breezy pop feel to it, and ‘Jinx’ shows off the band’s best kazoo skills. While we wait to hear what else comes next, you should be on the lookout for the music video for ‘Body Moves,” which was shot just a few days ago.”

As DNCE releases new music, the band is riding off the high of their smash hit “Cake by The Ocean.” The song moved up to the No. 1 spot on THR’s Top TV Songs chart in August thanks to NBC’s America’s Got Talent. According to a report via Billboard, the song was featured during a ballroom dance performed by mother-son duo Alla and Daniel Novikov. Unfortunately, the two were eliminated at the end of the episode. After the episode, “Cake” shot back up to No. 1. The song previously peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the March 12-dated chart.

“‘Cake by the Ocean,’ which was featured on America’s Got Talent on Aug. 23, leads with 34,000 Shazam tags in August, as well as 13.4 million U.S. streams and 60,000 downloads, according to Nielsen Music. Of those downloads, 16,000 occurred in the first tracking week after the episode aired (tracking week ending Sept. 1), marking a 125 percent gain from the previous week.”

Earlier this week, DNCE announced that their debut album is now available for pre-order. The self-titled album includes three of the four songs that appeared on the group’s SWAAY EP – “Toothbrush,” “Pay My Rent,” and of course, “Cake by the Ocean,” as reported by WJBD radio.

Back in September, the pop group announced their new album through a fun video, as seen below. Band members Joe Jonas, JinJoo Lee, Jack Lawless, and Cole Whittle introduce their new album with plenty of swagger, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The band worked with producer Max Martin in Los Angeles while finishing their album. The album was originally meant to drop in the summer, but with the success of “Cake by the Ocean” and “Toothbrush,” they decided to promote the singles and wait a few more months to give their fans new music.

“I think there’s this beach vibe to the album and overall good vibes, good feelings. It’s not too emotional or heavy,” Jonas teased in a previous interview with EW last month. “There are songs like that here and there but the core of it is pretty loose.”
