Selena Gomez ‘Meltdown’ Linked To Justin Bieber: Will He Apologize Or Claim She ‘Won’t Let Go’?

Selena Gomez recently announced that she was taking time off from her career, describing problems including anxiety and depression. The announcement followed a volatile social media battle with on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber, which included cheating allegations. Now some reports are linking her decision to remove herself from the public spotlight and take a career hiatus to Bieber.

For those who thought that the “off” switch was in a permanent position in Selena’s and Justin’s messy romance, an insider revealed to Us Weekly that the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer still has strong feelings for Bieber.

But she’s reportedly trying to let go of the feelings by choosing to change her phone number so that Justin can no longer reach out and call her. Gomez, 24, “changed her phone number,” then apparently told those to whom she gave her new number to avoid passing it onto Bieber, 22, added the insider.

“[Selena] told everyone not to give [her phone number] to [Justin].”

The “Same Old Love” singer has been with Bieber since 2011, and despite their repeated breakups, they just as frequently found a way to make up, until that argument in mid-August on Instagram. It began when Justin attacked his fans for their hostility to his girlfriend Sofia Richie, from whom he has since split up. Gomez shocked everyone by unexpectedly leaping into the online war, telling Bieber to stop sharing all those photos of himself with Richie.

“It should be special between you two only,” she wrote on Justin’s post.

Justin then hinted that she had cheated with former One Direction member Zayn Malik.

“Oh I forgot about You and Zayn?” he responded.

Us‘ insider revealed that the heated Instagram battle proved too much for the “fragile” pop princess.

“Selena lost it. She can be fragile emotionally and Justin is a major factor.”

Consequently, she is taking time off to focus “on her mental health,” according to the insider. The “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer herself revealed in a statement that her break is designed to help her deal with her “panic attacks and depression.”

After their social media battle, however, Gomez tried to reach out to Bieber to apologize, sources told TMZ. But Justin reportedly will not provide his former girlfriend with the opportunity to apologize for slamming his romance with Sofia, and TMZ’s insiders also clarified how Bieber feels about Selena.

“[Justin] feels like his ex won’t let go, and she’s constantly looking for ways to insert herself in his biz.”

Consequently, Bieber is “very over her,” despite her subsequent apology on social media, in which she described her role in his Instagram battle as “selfish and pointless,” added the sources.

As for how Gomez is faring since that social media battle, an insider told In Touch that the singer’s problems stem back to when she learned just how hot and heavy Justin’s romance with Sofia had become.

The source links her “unhealthy relationship” with Bieber to the cancellation of her Revival Tour, noting that although her autoimmune disease plays a key role in her problems, her off-again, on-again romance with Justin has caused her problems to escalate. Consequently, when Gomez learned about Bieber and Sofia, she had problems coping, explained the insider.

“[Selena] had a meltdown.”

Justin has been attempting to ignore her, but that’s reportedly caused even more problems.

“The more he ignored her, the more she freaked out,” added the source.

As for any chance that Bieber might reach out to his ex and apologize, or even that the era of Jelena (Justin + Selena) might return, Hollywood Life reports that the Biebs is carefree and loving his single life since dumping Sofia.

“[Bieber] is loving being single and listening to what he wants to do for himself. He loves not being responsible for nurturing a relationship right now because he wants to make sure he is doing well on tour and being able to do his own thing,” a source told Hollywood Life.

Consequently, Bieber has no plans to “start anything” with a new gal pal “because he wants to be single,” summed up the insider.

“[Justin] is perfectly content with his single status.”
