Alicia Machado may have a sex tape problem on her hands, with reports that the Miss Universe winner currently locked in a battle with Donald Trump once had a romp televised on a popular Spanish reality show.
Machado has become a household name in the days since Monday’s first presidential debate. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton name-dropped Machado as an example of Donald Trump’s history of misogyny, saying that as head of the beauty pageant Trump publicly bullied Machado when she gained weight.
“This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs and someone who has said pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, who has said that women don’t deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men,” Clinton said (via CNN).
“And one of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest — he loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them — and he called this woman ‘Miss Piggy,’ then he called her ‘Miss Housekeeping’ because she was Latina. Donald, she has a name. Her name is Alicia Machado. And she has become a U.S. citizen and you can bet she is going to vote this November.”
The Clinton campaign was prepared for the line of attack, with commercials featured Machado ready to roll out. The Venezuela native, who recently became a United States citizen, also plans to hit the campaign trail in support of Hillary Clinton.
But Alicia Machado’s reported sex tape could throw that in jeopardy. Radar Online reported that in 2005, the Miss Universe winner appeared on a Spanish reality show called La Granja VIP, which translates to The VIP Farm. The show threw a mismatched group of celebrities together and had them work as farmers, but for Machado it was reportedly a chance to make a love connection.
As Radar Online noted, Machado hooked up with one of her co-stars as the cameras were rolling — even though she was dating MLB star Bobby Abreau at the time.
“On one episode, Machado and costar Fernando Acaso were caught having sex on camera, PeopleenEspanol.com reported. According to reports, they knew the camera were rolling but continued their raunchy romp.“
This is not the only bit of dirt being dug up on Alicia Machado. Within hours of her name being dropped at the debate, other news outlets were reporting on her loose connection to an attempted murder in 1997. Police in Venezuela accused Machado of driving the getaway car after her boyfriend allegedly tried to kill his brother-in-law, but the Miss Universe winner had a solid alibi — she was filming a soap opera at the time of the attack.
There are some other, more shadowy rumors about Alicia Machado’s past. The right-leaning Daily Caller claimed that Machado had appeared in adult videos that could be found online, though there was no confirmation that it was actually Machado in the films.
Donald Trump has struggled to move past difficult news cycles. The topic of Alicia Machado is no exception. https://t.co/Mf2n6LgcMW— The New York Times (@nytimes) September 29, 2016
Some on the left see the stories as an attempt to discredit Machado and take the air out of her argument against Donald Trump’s misogyny and racism toward her. In previous interviews, Machado had taken responsibility for the mistakes she has made in the past, saying she is now focusing on being a mother and an example to other women.
It’s unclear if the Alicia Machado sex tape scandal will be able to save Donald Trump on this issue, however. He has taken plenty of heat for his continued criticism of Machado, including defending his decision to shame her for gaining weight. Trump has seen a sharp dip in the polls that have come out after Monday’s debate, and he appears to be only digging deeper in his defense on the Machado issue.
