‘MythBusters: The Search’ Announces Kyle Hill Will Host The New Science Channel Series

Although the classic hit series, MythBusters, wrapped up with the airing of the final episode on March 6, 2016, after an impressive 14-year run, there is great news for fans of the show. According to TV Ruckus, something new is on the way with MythBusters: The Search, and this new reality competition aims to find a new crop of fearless science superstars who will continue the popular series. In order to come out on top, the next generation of contenders must possess outstanding building skills, science smarts, and nerves of steel.

The Science Channel recently announced that Kyle Hill, science editor for Nerdist, host of YouTube’s Because Science, and contributor to the Science Channel’s 2016 series How To Build… Everything will be hosting MythBusters: The Search. Hill will be introducing the 15 contestants and the myths they will be trying to bust each week.

MythBusters is the most iconic science series in the history of television, and Kyle is an enormous talent and the ultimate MythBusters super fan,” said Marc Etkind, general manager of the Science Channel. “With his encyclopedic knowledge of every MythBusters episode and stunt ever attempted, he is the ideal host to introduce our all-new myths and potential future myth busters.”

Michael Walsh stated in an article for the Nerdist that Kyle doesn’t just know a lot about MythBusters, but “few have as much love and admiration for the influential series as he does.” He went on to say that there are no better, more caring hands they could have put the franchise in than Kyle’s, and the Science Channel picked the perfect host to help usher in a new generation of MythBusters.

Hill credits MythBusters with helping him to develop a love for science. He shared in an article he wrote about what the show meant to him, calling it the “best science show of a generation.” Kyle states that MythBusters first aired when he was heading for high school and says that the series guided him toward taking more of the math and science courses that he was already interested in.

Variety shared that there will be bigger, even more spectacular stunts on MythBusters: The Search, where some of the myth-busting challenges will focus on both new and old science myths. The challenges participants will face on MythBusters: The Search will require strong building skills, while others will require very specific scientific knowledge, and every challenge will require plenty of ingenuity and resolve from each one of the contenders. As they compete to come out on top for the win on MythBusters: The Search and to perhaps become the next Jamie Hyneman or Adam Savage, the participants will be judged by a panel of judges who were previously involved in the original MythBusters in some capacity.

Perhaps Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, and Tory Belleci will make appearances on MythBusters: The Search, and who knows, maybe Savage and Hyneman will return as well in order to mentor and guide the hopeful contestants. After the winners are selected from MythBusters: The Search, they will then appear on the new MythBusters series that will air on the Science channel.

The original MythBusters debuted on the Discovery Channel on January 23, 2003, and earned an impressive eight consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Reality Program from 2009-2016. MythBusters experiments were conducted with a fun blend of scientific method, excitement, curiosity, and plenty of ingenuity that captured and fueled the imagination. Fans loved the show’s signature style of over-the-top bold, daring, and often explosive experimentation.

MythBusters: The Search is produced for the Science Channel by Beyond Productions, with Dan Tapster and John Luscombe serving as the executive producers. For the Science Channel, Wyatt Channell is executive producer, with Lindsey Foster Blumberg serving as producer.
