Zayn Malik Slams Celebrity Culture That Made One Direction Famous, Gigi Hadid Disses Harry Styles?

Celebs Now is reporting that Zayn Malik’s girlfriend Gigi Hadid may have dissed Harry Styles by way of a cheeky Instagram post. Meanwhile, Zayn has given yet another interview blasting his time with One Direction and criticizing the celebrity culture that shot him and the rest of the boys to fame.

Zayn told High Snobriety that he hates the word “celebrity.” Malik said that it’s easy to believe your own hype and begin to think you are superior to the people around you. Zayn added that he has learned to spot fake friends and people who wish to use him for his fame, and even said that he can spot those types from a mile away.

“I hate the word celebrity. I think it’s a dangerous road to go down, thinking of yourself as a celebrity, because then you somehow automatically think that label makes you superior to other people… Some people just want to hang around you because they know your name … I can see through that bulls**t a mile off.”

Zayn explosively quit One Direction in 2015, breaking the hearts of millions of fans and reportedly earning criticism from Harry Styles, who was said to be Zayn’s biggest supporter in the band. After Zayn quit, he gave a series of critical interviews blasting the band’s music as uncool and formulaic, and saying that he never felt like he was treated as an artist. Zayn hinted that the other guys made efforts to allow him to put his own urban/RnB touch on the band’s sound, but in the end, Zayn just did not feel that he and the other One Direction guys were on the same page.

Zayn also said that being in One Direction felt like being part of a machine. The touring, recording, and promo work churned on constantly over five stressful years, according to Malik.

In the latest interview, Zayn revealed that he feels “free at last” now that he has launched a solo career and found success with his album Mind of Mine.

Malik said that he just “didn’t feel good” when he was in the band, and he needed to be free to be himself and express himself creatively.

“I know that musicians are seen as one-sided people a lot of the time. But we do have other elements to us as well. I didn’t feel good. Do you know what I mean? And if you don’t feel good … You need to be able to express what it is that you are. I’m free at last.”

Zayn feels happier since quitting One Direction, but he has also been plagued by anxiety in recent months, according to The Sun. Malik explained this week that there was a lot of press and hype during the build-up to the release of his first solo single “Pillowtalk.” Zayn said that the pressure got to him a bit, and he still feels it.

“There was a lot of built-up anxiety to create this thing. You don’t really know what’s going to happen. So when that song went out, and I saw the reaction from the fans, that took a little weight off me for a bit…. Obviously, there’s still a lot of pressure. I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder, so I’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Zayn received criticism for cancelling a number of interviews and performances recently, however fans stood by the ex-One Direction star and sent their well-wishes, with many telling Zayn to take care of himself and put his health and well-being first.

Zayn is still in a relationship with supermodel Gigi Hadid and just this week the stunning blonde posted an Instagram shot that got fans talking.

Gigi posted an Elle magazine cover shot of Zayn that was released some weeks ago. Fans wondered why Gigi chose today to post the old-ish picture. Many speculated that Gigi did it because Harry Styles’ much-hyped Mick Jagger-inspired shots for Another Man Magazine came out just this week, reports Celebs Now.

Now calls it “interesting timing.”

Interesting timing, given that the Zayn shoot came out several weeks ago but Gigi only chose to post this after Harry’s new snaps emerged on Tuesday…

Gigi captioned the shot of Zayn “A COVER.” Some fans thought Gigi seemed to be gloating that Zayn is a worthy cover star, while Harry is not.
