Add Jon Stewart to the massive media pile-up of criticism for President Barack Obama’s poor performance at the first presidential debate. Still, the comic sees the glass as half full, as our unilateral criticism has finally brought together our “deeply divided nation.”
Most major media outlets have scrutinized a number of “facts” put forth by GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney in the 90-minute presidential debate on domestic policy, but the overwhelming consensus is that the POTUS was in poor form, and, regardless of the playing fast-and-loose with facts, numbers, and policy, Mitt Romney emerged as the clear winner of the debate. But turn that frown upside-down, left-wingers! According to The Daily Show‘s prolific host and common-sense-comic Jon Stewart, our universal criticism of President Obama has finally brought us all together.
“There is no red America, there is no blue America, there is only the America that can’t believe how bad this guy did in the debate,” Stewart said.
Stewart also remarked that President Obama’s performance was so bad that Mitt Romney was able to get away with saying he’ll cut government funding to PBS, specifically naming the Sesame Street character Big Bird:
“[Romney] fired Big Bird and won!” Stewart proclaimed. “He could have water-boarded Aladdin, put down Blue, deported Dora the Explorer and still won walking away.”
Stewart did have some advice for President Obama as he heads into his next debate. Rather than playing it safe, Stewart says he should just scream “Liar! Liar! Liar!” during his two-minutes of rebuttal. At this point, I think anything would help.
