USC Trojans Should Immediately Hire Les Miles And Fire Clay Helton

The news broke earlier today that the LSU Tigers decided to fire head coach Les Miles after the team’s loss to the Auburn Tigers on Saturday afternoon. It was a big move, but one that should have been expected by any fan that has followed the Tigers’ history with Miles over the last year.

LSU will begin its search for a new head coach and it should be too difficult to get a quality coach. They can offer one of the most prestigious coaching jobs in the country.

Looking ahead at Miles’ future, there are going to be quite a few schools interested in hiring him. That being said, the USC Trojans need to do everything in their power to hire Miles. Firing Clay Helton would have to happen in order to bring Miles on board, but that shouldn’t make the Trojans hesitate for a second.

USC has struggled through multiple years of incompetent coaching. Steve Sarkisian was fired last year in the middle of the season after struggling with alcohol-related usage on the job. Helton was hired to replace him, but players have been making it clear that they are not happy with the program and some are threatening to leave or have already put plans to leave in motion.

If the Trojans were able to hire Miles to replace Helton, they could turn their football program around immediately.

Throughout the 12 seasons that he coached at LSU, Miles put together a 114-34 record. That record shows one major reason that Miles could help turn the USC football program back around. He is a proven winner and is respected as such.

Miles is going to have plenty other programs interested in hiring him to be their new head coach. He will also likely consider taking a break from the coaching industry. Parting ways with a team that has been your home for 12 seasons isn’t easy and could warrant a year or two away from the game.

While Miles could consider other programs or sitting out for a while, the Trojans offer him an intriguing opportunity to say the very least.

At one point in time, USC was viewed as a powerhouse and was one of the hottest jobs in college football. They also were one of the kings of recruiting. Miles would help restore that idea of what USC football is to the program after the rough seasons that they have had.

Miles is 62-years-old and still has plenty of time to be a top-notch head football coach. There is always a chance that Miles could consider testing the waters for a jump to the NFL as well. That option doesn’t seem all that likely, but it just goes to show how many options the former LSU head coach has.

Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Miles in the future. If USC is smart, they will try to get in touch with Miles immediately. Helton hasn’t done anything wrong, but if the Trojans have a chance to bring Miles in, even in the middle of the season, they need to fire him without a second thought.

Expect to hear more news about Miles come out throughout the next week or two. USC may not end up getting Miles when everything is said and done, but they should do everything in their power to get something done with him.

Do you think the LSU Tigers should immediately try to hire Les Miles to be their new head football coach? Would firing Clay Helton just to hire Miles be wrong? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!
