Drake To Drop ‘Please Forgive Me’ Short Film Ahead Of Scheduled Release, Film To Appear On Apple Music

Drake has officially confirmed that his highly anticipated short film, Please Forgive Me, will drop tonight via Apple Music despite the project’s previously confirmed release date of September 30.

The “One Dance” rapper took to Instagram on Sunday morning to surprise fans with the news of the film’s early release, albeit neglecting to offer any additional information regarding what is to be expected from the long-awaited project. While Drake previously announced a September 30 release date for the short film via Instagram last month, it’s currently unclear as to why the rapper has decided to release the film ahead of its previously confirmed Friday release date.

In his most recent Instagram post concerning Please Forgive Me, Drake took to the social media site to share what appears to be another poster for the short film alongside a brief caption that announces the project’s impending release.

Please Forgive Me, directed by Anthony Mandler and scored by producer Noah “40” Shebib, is reportedly inspired by music from Drake’s most recent album release, Views, and is heavily rumored to feature several music videos from the rapper’s studio album, although Drake has yet to confirm any speculation surrounding the project.

According to Brand New Hip Hop, Please Forgive Me will allegedly feature the long-awaited “One Dance” music video, which was filmed in South Africa back in June, in addition to an instrumental version of “Weston Road Flows,” one unannounced track that was reportedly scrapped from Views prior to its release in April, and dancehall favorite “Controlla” featuring Beenie Man.

The site further notes that, according to one of their sources, either “Redemption” or “Fire & Desire” will also likely make an appearance in the film before revealing that “Too Good” and “Child’s Play” will be released as separate videos and most likely did not make the cut for Please Forgive Me. Drake previously dropped the official music video for “Child’s Play” earlier this month, which featured Tyra Banks as Drake’s girlfriend in the nearly 12-minute video.

In addition to Drake’s reveal of an early release for the short film, Apple Music recently teased that Drake’s Please Forgive Me would be “coming soon” as an exclusive to the platform alongside what appears to be another film poster for the project via Twitter on September 20. In the poster, Drake can be seen looking down at the ground with blood trickling down from his face and neck, seemingly hinting at an appearance from Drake for the project despite rumors suggesting that the rapper would serve only as a director for the film and would not appear in the short film as an actor or performer.

Currently, there’s no official release time set for the project, although fans are already speculating that Drake’s Apple Music radio segment, OVO Sound Radio, may debut the video on their official website for non-Apple Music subscribers later this evening as well.

Drake has teased the impending arrival of Please Forgive Me several times via Instagram since previously announcing the project back in August, although many of the rapper’s prior posts have since been deleted. Just four days ago, Drake released yet another teaser for the upcoming short film alongside a photo of Popcaan, who was replaced with Beenie Man as a feature on Drake’s track, “Controlla,” further fueling speculation that a music video for the original version of the dancehall track may have made the cut for Please Forgive Me.

We’ll update with more information regarding an official release time for the short film as it becomes available.
