Sacha Baron Cohen’s new movie will see the risque British comedian play a character inspired by a Hong Kong billionaire who offered $65m to any man who succeeded in marrying his lesbian daughter.
The Lesbian is based upon the story of Cecil Chao who has publicly promised any male this incredible sum of money after reports emerged that his daughter had wed her long-term girlfriend. The movie will be produced by Paramount Picture film through his company Four By Two with Sacha more than likely set to star as the billionaire.
Baron-Cohen is also currently working on a 007 spoof and is also set to ster in the film adaptation of Les Miserables, which will be released in December.
Same-sex unions are not recognised in Hong Kong even though homosexuality was decriminalised in 1991, but Mr Chao, who has never married himself, recently told the BBC that his daughter was still single and simply needed a “good husband.”
Gigi Chao is a businesswoman who married in France earlier this year to her female partner of seven years Sean Eave, but her father seems to have rejected the supposed ceremony and has even revealed that his offer has received numerous replies from several suitors across the globe. Mr Chao revealed :
“I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted.”
It’s easy to see why Baron-Cohen was so enticed by this project as there will seemingly be a never ending supply of quality comedic characters at his disposal. But with his cinematic-plate quite full at the moment, don’t expect to see it for quite a while yet.
