‘Kindred Spirits’: Amy Bruni And Adam Berry’s TLC Paranormal Series Will Be Spooky And Emotional

Ghost hunters Amy Bruni and Adam Berry are returning to TV just in time for Halloween, but don’t expect their new TLC series, Kindred Spirits, to be all about the scares.

Bruni and Berry will experience plenty of paranormal activity when they investigate homes that are possibly haunted, but the former Ghost Hunters stars also aim to help the living souls sharing their spaces with restless spirits. The show will focus on families who believe that their deceased loved ones may be responsible for the frightening paranormal activity that they are experiencing, and Bruni and Berry’s goal is to help the living and the dead rest in peace (but they want the living to remain alive, obviously).

Kindred Spirits is already get rave reviews, and fans of Amy Bruni and Adam Berry’s impressive investigative work couldn’t be more excited about the series. According to Week in Weird writer Greg Newkirk, the show is “fantastic,” and TLC’s talented paranormal team have created “the kind of paranormal reality series that television has been sorely lacking.” Bruni and Berry will be interacting with people who are haunted by deceased family members, so viewers will witness some heart-wrenching moments. However, the Kindred Spirits team isn’t out to exploit anyone’s pain; they reportedly offer “solutions to paranormal activity that rely on sensitivity rather than bravado.”

Amy Bruni recently talked to Bay Magazine about her desire to craft a reality show that explores hauntings on a more personal, emotional level.

“We really wanted to do something on homes and families, and people who truly needed help,” Amy said. “That’s what people ask us about all the time. So many of our fans have gone through things that have been traumatic and scary for them. They would reach out and I’d want to help them.”

In addition to using ghost hunting equipment to seek out lost souls, Amy and Adam will be delving into the histories of the families that they’re trying to help. The Kindred Spirits crew will try to find out who ghosts are and want they want, and they’ll even help ghosts by passing messages on to their loved ones.

“I can’t give away too much, but I would say we’ve run the gamut this season from people acknowledging who they are and what they want, to getting a message from the entity and passing it on,” Amy revealed.

According to TLC, the premiere episode of Kindred Spirits was filmed in Little Meadows, Pennsylvania. There a family living near the woods was experiencing a real-life American horror story. Light fixtures were being smashed, something was making inexplicable scratching noises, and the paranormal activity was waking up the farmhouse’s residents in the middle of the night. According to Week in Weird, one of the family’s most frightening ghost encounters involved “a strange figure appearing to watch them from the woods at the edge of their property.”

In the sneak peek below, the Kindred Spirits team learns the tragic story of a three-year-old girl who died after walking into a spinning blade at a sawmill. Berry also gets freaked out when he sees a teddy bear move.

This clip certainly has a spooky feel, but Amy Bruni says that viewers will also see “a lot of tears” and “a lot of laughs.” According to her former Ghost Hunters costar Grant Wilson, fans should be prepared to shed a few tears of their own.

“Get your tissues, folks… this show has the feels,” he recently tweeted of Amy and Adam’s new series.

As the Wrap points out, the current season of FX’s massive popular anthology series American Horror Story is set up like a paranormal documentary TV series, so it may inspire viewers to seek out shows like Kindred Spirits. Potential viewers have already flooded Amy Bruni’s Facebook page with comments letting her know how excited they are about the series, so TLC may have a big hit on its hands.

Kindred Spirits premieres October 21 on TLC.
