In a case where a child was reportedly used as a human traffic cone, a toddler was left sitting alone in a parking lot to save his mother’s parking space. While the consensus is that the toddler was left sitting alone in the parking lot for 20 minutes, some witnesses say that the little boy (believed to be as young as 2 or 3 years old) had been left alone, sitting on the hot pavement, for as long as an hour and a half.

Photographs of the boy, wearing just shorts and a T-shirt, his tiny toddler legs bare, have since gone viral. The child’s mother, who reportedly left her toddler sitting in the hot parking lot, has been the subject of a mountain of criticism for her decision to leave her toddler unattended for something as seemingly unimportant as saving a parking space.

The situation of the toddler left sitting at a parking lot, completely unattended, was brought to light earlier this week, reports America Online News. The unbelievable situation took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and it reportedly went down in an area of the city notorious for its traffic jams and parking problems.

One onlooker who spied the little toddler boy sitting on the hot asphalt reportedly took a picture of the small child and posted it to social media. The child looks tiny in the photo, surrounded by a sea of parked cars (and no other empty spaces, in case you’re wondering.)

The social media maven who posted the picture of the toddler left sitting in the parking lot to save his mom’s parking spot has been identified as Wynn Tan; that Facebook user said that they witnessed the toddler sitting unattended for at least 20 minutes in the oppressive Malaysian heat before his mom returned to park in the “saved” parking lot space.

Reportedly, the child was left in the parking lot by his mother so she could retrieve her car from an undisclosed location and drive it to the spot to park there.

As the Daily Mail reports, the incident with the toddler left sitting in the parking lot while his mom returned with her car has gotten a lot of attention. Reportedly, while the small child sat alone seemingly abandoned, some onlookers approached the toddler to check on his well-being. Those strangers asked the child if he was lost, what he was doing there, and if he needed help.

Reportedly, he told them all that his mom had left him there alone so that he could save her parking spot in the crowded parking lot for her.

Not surprisingly, many eyewitnesses and internet viewers of the now-viral photo of the toddler sitting alone in the parking lot are completely unamused by the shocking situation. While the little toddler ultimately made it though the ordeal unharmed, many people were shocked that he didn’t come to some kind of “bad end” or deal with some form of negative fallout because of his mother’s alleged decision to leave him alone in the crowded parking lot to save her spot.

Many on social media said that the woman was “very lucky” that her child wasn’t tragically overheated, abducted, or otherwise harmed as a result of being left alone in the hot parking lot to save his mother’s coveted and rare parking space.

Others who have seen the viral photo and familiarized themselves with the story have reacted with a bit more humor to what could have been a tragic situation. For those people, the viral photo of the toddler left sitting in the parking lot is proof that Malaysians will do anything and everything to secure a parking space in their overcrowded cities.
