Whoopi Goldberg Reveals The Gender Bending Reason She’s Leaving ‘The View’

Whoopi Goldberg is proving that all good things really must come to an end, as she reveals that she most likely will be leaving The View, following the currently-running season. On the one hand, the news come as a shock, because, after so long as the most recognizable co-host of The View, it might have been assumed Whoopi would have gone down with the ship. Conversely, Ms. Goldberg also shares plans for new projects, leaving little time for her duties on The View. One such project is Goldberg’s vision for a reality show for transgender models.

Whoopi Goldberg recently played guest, as opposed to her usual job of co-host, when she appeared on The Wendy Williams Show. The Daily Mail reports that, while there, Whoopi revealed plans to depart The View, surprising Ms. Williams and the audience. Even though Goldberg wouldn’t commit to a definitive yes or no, her statements seemed to indicate the strong possibility that, when everyone returned to The View set for Season 21, she wouldn’t be numbered among the co-hosts.

“No, probably not,” Whoopi admitted. “I have to do it, baby. Because I have to go and grow. I’ve got stuff to do. I’ve got movies I need to direct, I got books I gotta finish.”

Ms. Goldberg went on to say she has had a great time on The View, but that it has taken her away from her first love of acting, as well as taking up time she might be spending on her writing. Whoopi adds that she has been with The View through only a half of its entire run, so she feels confident the talk show can carry on without her in the moderator role.

“You know, they’re in their twentieth season. They did this without me, I’ve been here for half of it but not all of it,” says Ms. Goldberg.

Whoopi Goldberg To Help Transgender Models Strut Their Stuff

Broadly reports that Whoopi Goldberg’s next big project is Strut, a reality show which will follow the lives of a group of transgender models, as they rise to fame with Slay, a modeling agency that deals exclusively with transgender models. Goldberg will serve as Strut’s executive producer, because she feels that the transgender community is the one aspect of our society still getting the brunt of our prejudices and discrimination.

Strut is to be produced for the Oxygen network, just after I am Cait failed to make the cut for a second season on the E! network. That show, focusing on Caitlyn Jenner, placed a heavy emphasis on discussing political hotbeds and many critics suggest that was the reason for the show’s rapid decline. Strut will deal with some of those same issues, but not solely for the sake of providing dramatic content.

Whoopi’s experience as a moderator on The View will certainly come in handy in guiding Strut into a successful, well-liked program and the concept of watching transgender models work towards achieving their dreams will put a positive spin on the show.

“People tend to focus on the stereotype instead of the person, and this series will give viewers a unique opportunity to spend time with real people who are struggling with the same challenges we all face as we make our way through the world,” Goldberg says.

Isis King, one of Strut‘s models, says there’s more to the show than the search for success and fame. She says the Strut models deal with problems that will be relatable to anyone, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

“This show has heart!” says Isis. “It’s not all glitz and glam. We get real, vulnerable, and authentic. That is relatable to anyone.”
