‘Once Upon A Time’ Boss Leaks New Dangers In The Land Of Untold Stories

As with most Once Upon a Time seasons, the upcoming sixth season, which is set to premiere tomorrow night on ABC, will give fans a glimpse into yet another new magical land, taking the Once Upon a Time heroes and heroines into the Land of Untold Stories. Unlike Neverland and the Underworld, the Land of Untold Stories is largely the product of the imaginations of the Once Upon a Time producers, so series showrunner Edward Kitsis offers up a look at what can be expected from this ingeniously crafted story arc and how it will affect the lives of the prime characters.

Once Upon A Time Boss Edward Kitsis On Exploring The Land Of Untold Stories

As Edward Kitsis describes the idea for The Land of Untold Stories in an Entertainment Weekly interview, one can’t help but be reminded of the Island of Misfit Toys from the old Rankin/Bass Christmas specials. It’s very much the same theme, but, instead of toys, the Land of Untold Stories plays home to faerie tale characters who, for one reason or another, have fled their own realms. Kitsis says the characters may not have liked how their stories were being told or feared their own unsavory demises, but, for whatever reason, they have fled to The Land of Untold Stories.

“What we’re going to see is that they are a bunch of characters who have left their own story for various reasons, so they didn’t like how it ended, they didn’t like how they were going, they needed to be on the run,” says the Once Upon a Time showrunner. “We’re going to have little fun visual piece: When you’re at Granny’s, you should be able to see come characters you normally wouldn’t on the show.”

In light of that information, the Once Upon a Time boss reveals that the arrival of Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) and company will be viewed as an unwanted intrusion. These new Once Upon a Time characters are content to stay where they are, so many of them will be unlikely to help Emma and her friends at the beginning of things. As events progress, Kitsis says the Once Upon a Time heroes will find themselves helping these Land of Untold Stories misfits in getting their own happy endings.

“There were people who were frightened. What it does is it puts us back in a situation where Emma and the heroes are going to have to help a whole bunch of people finish their story.”

What Else Will Season 6 Of Once Upon A Time Deliver To Its Unsuspecting Fans?

In addition to telling untold stories, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Season 6 of Once Upon a Time will introduce a new savior. By now, it’s common knowledge that Emma Swan isn’t the first savior, nor is she to be the last. Fans who attended the Once Upon a Time Comic-Con panel this year were treated to footage that revealed Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz) as one such former savior, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there will be yet another hero coming to the show.

In fact, it was revealed that Aladdin and Emma will embark on a journey of their own this season, hoping to discover more about the savior mythology.

One of the biggest story arcs to continue in Season 6 stems from last season’s finale in which Regina Mills (Lana Parrilla) separated herself from the Evil Queen. Unknown to Regina, the Evil Queen didn’t die when she crushed her heart. Now, she’s back and out for vengeance against her human counterpart.

“The Evil Queen, in this new form, is quickly shown to be formidable in a way that we haven’t seen any villain in a long time, if at all,” Kitsis said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The Once Upon a Time showrunners have also teased that some tense conflicts will disrupt the harmony between some of the show’s most beloved romances. Secrets will threaten to tear Emma and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) apart and a newly awakened Belle (Emilie de Ravin) has to come to terms with Rumple (Robert Carlyle) and the soon-to-be-arriving baby, just to name two of the relationships facing peril in this season of Once Upon a Time.

The Season 6 premiere of Once Upon a Time will air tomorrow night on ABC.
