Pet Story Update: 9-Year-Old Gets New Dog After Trespassing Daily In Neighbors Garage Just to Hug Their Puppy

Imagine wanting the love from a puppy so badly that you were willing to break the law to get it. Such was the case for a Louisiana boy, Josh Breaux, who lost his family dog last year, and mourned his daily cuddle.

He mourned it so deeply in fact, that he trespassed into his neighbors garage every day, just to hug their dog. What Josh didn’t know at the time was, he was caught on tape.

Watch the incredible footage of this heartwarming pet story, where, unbeknownst to both of these friends, the 9-year-old is caught on tape, sneaking into his neighbor’s garage to steal hugs from Duchess. His furry friend doesn’t seem to mind, and Duchess wags her tail every time she sees Josh coming.

When this first started happening, the neighbor with the security cam was touched by the moment. But, she did not know her neighbors well, and so she posted a clip of the footage on her Facebook page, wanting to know who the sweet child was that was stealing hugs from her Duchess.

The Inquisitr reported on this pet story this Summer, when the infamous security footage of the hug stealing 9-year-old went viral and had hit the 2 million views mark. Multiple outlets have picked up the video since, and the story of this endearing child, and his friend, has won the hearts of millions worldwide. On ABC alone the security footage got over 70 million views.

Now, we are happy to report this pet story has an even happier ending. People Magazine reports that Josh’s new best friend is Drake, and the newest member of the Breaux family.

The Breaux family of Pierre Part, Louisiana, are long time animal lovers. Their previous dog, Bella, came into the family when Josh was only 2-years-old. But Bella passed away last year, according to People Magazine.

And, like many families, they wanted to take their time in finding the right fit, and the right time, before adding another member of the family. When Josh’s story went viral this Summer, millions of people from all over the world offered to send Josh his own dog, so he wouldn’t have to steal hugs any more.

But Josh’s mom Ginger Breaux said, while she appreciated the outpouring of love, it just wasn’t time yet. She knew the responsibility it would entail, and told ABC News that Josh was busy with after school activities and it just wasn’t the right time to add this responsibility to his plate.

With a new school year on the agenda though, Fate appears to have sent the Breaux family their happy ending. Another neighbor in the community had adopted a Labrador puppy this Summer, but ended up going away to college for his new school year. Instead of leaving the dog with family to care for until his return, he gave Drake to Josh. Watch them together here.

It seems to be a case of perfect timing. Ginger told ABC that she felt with the outpouring of love for Josh and Duchess, she felt more than a little pressure in bringing a new baby into the family. But like many pet owners grieving a loss, she just wasn’t ready. She wrote to ABC on their Facebook page saying,

“I never had an intention of no dog, I just wanted to wait until the time was right for us. And we just happened to find out about Drake at the right time.”

Sounds like the Breaux family was destined to be Drake’s forever home. While the addition of Drake into the family is certainly a happy ending for the Breaux’s, that doesn’t mean that Duchess has lost her new best friend either.

Ginger told ABC that Josh is still just as faithful as ever to Duchess. It’s even something the entire family has become involved in. Whenever Ginger and her daughter are taking a walk, they also stop by to give Duchess a little hug as well.
