WWE News: Nikki Bella And Carmella To Be In The Rare Women’s No DQ Match At ‘WWE No Mercy?’

When WWE told us we were entering a new era, most of us treated it as a reset for the WWE. With so many new names and new storylines finally arriving on the WWE stage, we obviously needed to see some sort of reset. Things have changed quite a bit in WWE this year. The WWE brand split is back with two different rosters for both WWE RAW and WWE SmackDown Live. Plus, we have a WWE NXT brand, where the newer stars to make their name before being called up to the big time. However, due to the incredible talent of many of the NXT superstars, this brand often gets more love than the main roster.

New names and faces have attracted our attention and interest this year, but the ratings have not really reflected the love. WWE has a lot to do to bring fans back, and they began this with the women of the WWE by creating a true Women’s World Championship instead of a Diva’s Championship and bringing in several superb women wrestlers from NXT.

After the awesome women’s matches in WWE NXT with the Four Horsewomen, the fans saw the main roster women in one two to five-minute match after the other. The fans resented the poor quality of the matches and felt the women wrestlers were capable of much more than they were allowed to in the Diva’s division. After a match with the Bella Twins that ended in about a minute on WWE RAW, a hashtag came about that said, “Give Divas A Chance.”

It came as no shock when three of the four horsewomen were brought up, and suddenly, the matches got better. Nikki Bella had to leave shortly after due to a neck injury, but she lost to Charlotte on the way out. Thanks to her incredible talent and not to nepotism, we have seen the daughter of Ric Flair go on a tear since she moved up from NXT. She has won every single title match she has been in on PPV since she arrived on the main roster. Around fourteen straight have been won by the Nature Girl. It made sense that Nikki Bella would go after her when she came back, but she returned during the brand split which meant she had to go where she was needed most, and that happened to be SmackDown Live.

Upon arrival, she was instantly attacked by NXT newcomer Carmella, who has successfully stepped out of her role as the former manager of Enzo Amore and Big Cass. Not only did Carmella attack her the day she came back, but Nikki Bella has been blindsided almost weekly by Carmella. The two have gotten into a heated altercation so often that things have gotten out of control, which was noted on WWE’s Talking Smack episode this past week on the WWE Network.

WWE SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan mentioned that after the disqualification Carmella ended up getting her team for illegally attacking Bella without tagging in, that it might be best for both Carmella and Nikki Bella to be in a No DQ match at WWE No Mercy. The PPV takes place next month on the WWE Network and already has a WWE Women’s Title match on the card with Becky Lynch(c) taking on Alexa Bliss, giving Bliss her first title match since arriving in the WWE.

It would be great to see two female wrestling matches on the card, especially in a rare No DQ match. The women of WWE have done a lot of things from hardcore matches to even a steel cage match. Naturally, a No DQ match is just as rare for women to do as those matches. This is not the first time it was done on the main roster as Layla and Michelle McCool did one at WWE Extreme Rules in 2011. The last one done involving this generation of women in the WWE was in 2012 at FCW, which was WWE’s developmental territory at the time. The match was between Paige and Audrey Marie, and it was not too bad despite being in front of about 20 people.

Nikki Bella and Carmella would surely take it up a notch, and it would be quite interesting to see. There is a rumor that WWE may have Sasha Banks take on Charlotte inside Hell in a Cell next month due to the WWE Hell in a Cell PPV taking place next month anyway. While the rumor is by no means confirmed, WWE may be pulling this match out for No Mercy so that SmackDown Live can have a hardcore match for the women of the blue brand before the women of WWE RAW go forth with their own history making match.

Both matches would obviously be fun, but at least one seems almost confirmed. Nikki Bella said on Twitter regarding the possible No DQ match with Carmella…”Carmella causing our tag match to be 32 secs & my neck to be in severe pain this week I would GLADLY take her on in a NO DQ match @No Mercy!” That being said, we’re most likely going to see it, which will surely push the red brand to counter with something of their own to top it. The competition is really heating up, and that is good for everyone.
