‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Spoilers: Will DeLuca Survive Alex’s Attack And Live Through The Premiere? [Sneak Peek]

The premiere of Grey’s Anatomy’s new season is only days away.

With the opening episode picking up after the events of the Season 12 finale, one of the biggest questions remaining surrounds Alex (Justin Chambers) and Andrew DeLuca’s (Giacomo Gianniotti) fate.

Will DeLuca survive Alex’s vicious attack? Or will Alex face serious charges by the end of the premiere?

Ecumenical News reports that Season 12 wrapped with Alex’s jealous beating of DeLuca, who is hanging on to his life in intensive care. Alex thought DeLuca was trying to make a move on Jo (Camilla Luddington), but in reality, the doctor was only helping Jo get home after a night of drinking.

Season 13 will kick off with DeLuca at Grey Sloan Memorial. While Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and the other doctors try to piece together what happened, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) struggles with keeping Alex’s secret.

In a trailer for the upcoming installment, DeLuca is shown fighting for his life. But is DeLuca’s life really in danger?

Fortunately, Shonda Rhimes sat down with Entertainment Weekly and revealed that DeLuca would play a much bigger role in the coming season.

“We’re going to get to know DeLuca a lot better, who we don’t know at all, and who we’ve just started to scratch the surface of,” Rhimes shared. “Now, because this thing has happened to him, he has found himself in a spotlight that he was not interested in ever being in.”

According to Carter Matt, a few details of DeLuca’s life have already been revealed.

For starters, the character is romantically involved with one other character working in Grey Sloan Memorial or maybe more than one.

He’s also becoming friends with Jo, although we all know how that ended.

After DeLuca survives Alex’s attack, it isn’t clear how he will react. We might get to see a darker side of the character, especially after he reveals who beat him within an inch of his life.

Hopefully, whatever is revealed will shed some favorable light on DeLuca and offer an interesting backstory.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly released the official promo trailer for the coming season of Grey’s Anatomy and revealed that Alex would be facing significant consequences for the fight with DeLuca.

While Alex deals with the authorities, Meredith might also find herself in trouble with the law for helping Alex in the aftermath of the fight.

“You think no one is gonna realize this is you?” Meredith asks Alex in the trailer. “You could go to jail.”

According to TV Guide, Meredith isn’t the only one affected by Alex’s actions.

“The doctors in the hospital [have] to reckon with the notion that one of their own could have been so violent,” Kelly McCreary shared. “It causes some friction among the doctors. There’s definitely sides being taken.”

Apart from Alex’s drama, April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) will also face some obstacles in the coming season, especially when it comes to Jackson’s mom, Catherine (Debbie Allen).

In the trailer, Catherine is shown holding April’s new baby and seems happy with her new granddaughter, despite her past friction with April.

However, things take a turn after Catherine asks about the baby’s name.

Catherine thought April and Jackson would name the baby after her, but looked more than disappointed after April tells her “there could only be one Catherine,” and they “wanted something strong, memorable.”

Given Catherine’s response, there’s probably trouble ahead for April and Jackson’s relationship.

Will Catherine prevent April and Jackson from rekindling their romance in the upcoming season?

Fans can watch all the drama unfold when Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC on Sept. 22. Be sure to check out a sneak peek below.
