Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Divorce Confirmed — A Look Back At Their Love Story
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are officially over.
The actress filed for divorce from Pitt shortly after their two year anniversary. Details of the divorce are still emerging, though a lengthy custody battle will likely ensue in the coming months.
While fans are still mourning the loss of one of Hollywood’s brightest couples, here is a look at Brangelina’s love story through the years.
Pitt’s romance with Jolie, according to Fox News, started on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith while Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston.
Pitt ended his marriage to Aniston shortly after working with Jolie on the film. Jolie later admitted that ruining Pitt’s marriage was never her intention.
“I didn’t know much about exactly where Brad was in his personal life,” Jolie recalled about their time working on Mr. & Mrs. Smith. “But it was clear he was with his best friend, someone he loves and respects.”
In fact, Jolie wasn’t even looking for another relationship when she started working with Pitt. Instead, the Tomb Raider star was committed to being a single mom.
However, things changed once Jolie and Pitt started filming together.
What started as a friendship steadily grew into something romantic.
“Whether it was shooting a scene or arguing about a scene or gun practice or dance class or doing stunts — anything we had to do with each other, we just found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork,” Jolie shared. “We just became kind of a pair.”
Jolie continued, “And it took until, really, the end of the shoot for us, I think, to realize that it might mean something more than we’d earlier allowed ourselves to believe. And both knowing that the reality of that was a big thing, something that was going to take a lot of serious consideration.”
Pitt and Aniston broke up that same year, and it didn’t long before he and Angelina Jolie were spotted in each other’s arms.
Although their relationship heated up in 2006, Pitt and Jolie had no plans to marry. Instead, the pair focused on raising their growing family, which at the time included Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh.
The couple later adopted another child, Pax, and had twins of their own in 2008, Knox and Vivienne.
With six kids in tow, Jolie and Pitt finally decided to tie the knot in 2014.
According to People, the pair was more than happy with their marriage when the two year anniversary rolled around.
“They really are great,” a source told the outlet. “They’re really busy, but happy. The kids are getting so big! It’s hard to believe.”
Indeed, Pitt and Jolie have been incredibly busy these past two years.
In addition to working together on the movie By the Sea, Jolie has been actively involved with the United Nations as a special envoy for refugees. She also led a campaign in the House of Lords for victims of sexual assault.
For his part, Pitt has been working in London for his upcoming film, Allied.
The family even took some time away from their busy schedules for a vacation in Thailand earlier this year.
Despite putting together a united public front, the couple was plagued with divorce rumors over the past couple months.
TMZ is reporting that Jolie officially filed for divorce this past Monday.
For now, it doesn’t appear like cheating had anything to do with Jolie’s decision. Instead, sources told the outlet that Pitt’s drinking and weed addiction caused the split, along with an alleged anger problem.
According to Hollywood Life, Jolie wants full custody of their six children but is not seeking money from Pitt.
