WWE News: WWE To Tone Down Cruiserweights On ‘WWE RAW,’ Will They Take Away What Makes Them Special?

For years, something has been missing from the WWE. They have had good storylines in the past and even pushed fan favorites to championships and main event status. This year alone has proved this true. However, a sinking feeling among fans was that we needed to bring something from the past back for this new era of the WWE. It is almost like a reset. WWE needed to change things and start from the bottom and go all the way to the top.

While we cannot expect WWE to remove the McMahon Family from power, we can expect to see the family bring change to their business. Enter Triple H. For all the hate he gets online for “burying people,” he has been at the top of the WWE for years and regardless of how he got there, he became a success once he reached it. Not only has he hired some of the best wrestlers in the world today to be part of the company, but he then fought for them to get top positions in the WWE.

Almost but one of the WWE NXT Five have managed to win gold in their WWE careers, whether it was on the NXT brand or the main roster…or both. Kevin Owens might be the most successful, having already held the NXT Title, 2 IC Titles, and now the WWE Universal Title. Regardless, there was a need for change and Triple H managed to give us this…but something felt off, which is why Triple H had the brilliant idea to bring in smaller wrestlers to be part of the Cruiserweight Classic.

Shortly after the first episode excited fans, WWE announced the launch of a brand new cruiserweight division. While only for WWE RAW for now, it will feature some of the best wrestlers in the world who happen to be a bit smaller. Now the CWC featured some amazing wrestlers, of which cannot be denied. However, some of the matches were over the top. That obviously comes with the territory when you put those types of wrestlers in the ring together.

That said, it should not be surprising that WWE wants to change things up a bit. According to Cageside Seats, WWE is planning to tone down the cruiserweights. The report goes on to say that they want to tone down the high spots and major flips. That does not mean that they are getting rid of them, but rather trying to bring some psychology and safety into the matches. It makes total sense to tone them down compared to the tournament.

The stuff we saw on WWE RAW on Monday most likely will be the kind of stuff WWE sticks with. Some like the WWE Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins are more technically driven, so his style may not change all that much. Seeing as he is one of the most complete packages regarding pro-wrestlers in the world, he will surely adapt well to this new change. Others like Noam Dar are also more technical, and even Jack Gallagher falls into this category.

The ones who might be affected the most may be Lucha star Gran Metalik and even Cedric Alexander. Cedric due to his clear high spot material, and Gran because as a Lucha Libre guy, his style is built on high spots and flips. That said, some styles will have to shift to a more WWE friendly style. Does that mean WWE will take away all that makes the cruiserweights special? No. There would be no reason to bring them back if they planned to make them like everything else they already have.

It’ll be interesting to see how things go starting at WWE Clash of Champions and beyond. It should be noted that The Brian Kendrick was added to the Clash of Champions match with TJ Perkins and not the others, despite the clear fan favorite love for some in the match past Kendrick. The reason, some assumed, was because Kendrick was the best heel for the cause. However, it can also be noted that Kendrick has been part of the WWE before and knows the style they are looking for and may help Perkins and others see what they can and cannot do.
