‘Metal Gear Survive’ Release Date And Gameplay: Hideo Kojima Comments On Zombie Spinoff

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima commented on upcoming Konami spinoff Metal Gear Survive and Konami has released gameplay.

Metal Gear Survive is a four-player co-op game set within the Metal Gear Solid style game play with stealth. Metal Gear Survive has a release date on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2017. Based on previous Konami releases, Metal Gear Survive will likely get a release date in March 2017 or September.

According to IGN, when Hideo Kojima was asked about the zombie spinoff, the video game developer denied any involvement. he replied, “That’s nothing to do with me!”

He goes on to say that the Metal Gear Survive doesn’t fit in with the plot and genre of Metal Gear Solid.

“The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage,” he continued. “Where do zombies fit in with that?” Kojima was joined on stage by Yoji Shinkawa, the former character and mechanical designer on the Metal Gear series who is now working on Death Stranding at Kojima Productions.”

Kojima was joined on stage by Yoji Shinkawa, the former character and mechanical designer on the Metal Gear series who is now working on Death Stranding at Kojima Productions.

Shinkawa also denied any involvement in Metal Gear Survive and jovially stated, “If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it.”

Some fans have pointed out that Hideo Kojima has talked about a zombie themed game in the past and some of the enemies in Metal Gear Solid are zombie-like.

At the Tokyo Game Show, Konami showed 15 minutes of Metal Gear Survive gameplay. The video has overwhelming dislike as Metal Gear Solid fans revolted against the zombie spinoff.

Some fans disliked the video because Hideo Kojima is not involved with the game. The gameplay is almost identical to Metal Gear Solid and many fans wonder why it didn’t come as a DLC to the final installment of the popular stealth series.

The gameplay features a co-op between players who attempt to survive against zombies in a stronghold equipped with zombie surviving material.

Polygon confirms that Metal Gear Survive is very similar to the latest installment of the Metal series.

“Fans of the series who played Metal Gear Solid 5 and its Metal Gear Online component will recognize many of the returning gameplay elements in Metal Gear Survive. Players can still Fulton enemies and items, exclusively using wormholes, and develop new weapons. This time, however, players will need to gather resources themselves and build objects like barricades, fences and mounted machine guns at a crafting table.”

It is unclear whether backlash on the gameplay will affect its scheduled release date.

However, not all the reception is bad. Many fans wanted a co-op experience added to the Metal Gear series and early gameplay reviews are yet to come available.

Some people have criticized the fire effect in the gameplay. The survive gameplay is also considered to be too similar to the Metal Gear game.

A more detailed account of Hideo Kojima’s comments shows that he denied any involvement in Metal Gear Solid and brought up the Famicom version of Metal Gear as a joke.

Although Metal Gear games have several supernatural elements, the focus on the main series was always the political fiction and stealth.

The survival game seems to focus on a survival mode style. However, the gameplay shows that it does keep some element of stealth.

It is unclear if the zombie version will have a detailed story mode. If it doesn’t, it makes the case that the game should have come as a downloadable content option for Metal Gear Solid 5, rather than a standalone game.
