Song Joong-ki And Song Hye-kyo Nominated For Best Couple After Missed Reunion At Seoul Drama Awards

Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo’s chemistry continues to grace headlines, and while the couple did not get the chance to reunite at the recently concluded Seoul International Drama Awards, fans could still express their support for the “KiKyo” couple.

The Descendants of the Sun stars are nominated for “Best Couple” at the upcoming 2016 APAN Awards. The ceremony will recognize the icons that have made notable impacts in Korea’s television industry.

To vote for Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, fans must register on the website. A separate link may be consulted for detailed instructions on how to register. As opposed to other online voting contests that allow daily castings of votes, an email address may only be used once for the category.

Apart from Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, other couples vying for the title are fellow Descendants of the Sun love team Jin Goo and Kim Ji-won; Kim Rae-won and Park Shin-hye from SBS’ Doctors; Seo Hyun-jin and Jun Hye-bin from tvN’s Another Oh Hae-young and Lee Jong-suk and Han Hyo-joo from MBC’s W. The results will be announced in the ceremony on October 2 that will take place at the MBC SangAm Cultural Square in Seoul.

Many were disheartened when Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo failed to cross paths at the Seoul International Drama Awards where the 31-year-old nabbed the “Best Actor” award for his stellar performance in Descendants of the Sun.

The show also earned the prestigious “Best Drama” award. Its theme song, “You Are My Everything,” likewise got the “Best Original Soundtrack” award. During the ceremony, Song Joong-ki confessed that he’s thinking of Song Hye-kyo for he believes that she deserved to have the award.

Nonetheless, fans who have been following Song Hye-kyo since the early parts of her career have noted that the 34-year-old actress is a private person who doesn’t attend all awards ceremonies.

The 52nd Baeksang Art Awards that she attended with Song Joong-ki three months ago was reportedly a gift for the Descendants of the Sun viewers who made the show’s astronomical success possible. Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo went home then with the “Most Popular Male in TV” and “Most Popular Female in TV” awards. Photos of the two holding hands on the red carpet went viral in the Korean drama community.

Despite their lack of public appearances, it seems that Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo continued to keep in touch. Knowing how tedious it is to film in a remote location, Song Hye-kyo sent a coffee truck to share with his colleagues. The actor is filming Battleship Island in Gangwon province. It isn’t known yet if the Endless Love actress extended the same gesture for Song Joong-ki’s birthday.

Fans are still yearning for a Descendants of the Sun extension. Even Singaporean actress Rebecca Lim, who was similarly present at the Seoul Drama Awards, admitted that she’s a big fan of the series. She praised Song Joong-ki for being kind.

“When my friends heard that Song was attending the award ceremony, they texted me and asked me to take pictures with him,” she told the Strait Times.“I didn’t think much about it because I didn’t know whether it was possible to do so. He was in the front row and I was seated right behind him.”

She added that Descents of the Sun is the only Korean drama that charmed her. She didn’t mind watching it from start to finish because “the story is very fast-paced and to-the-point. It had lots of unexpected twists. It was very romantic.”

Should there be a Descendants of the Sun 2, the people behind it will be different after KBS confirmed the resignation of the show’s director Lee Eung Bok. He reportedly transferred to tvN network to work for the upcoming show tentatively titled Goblin. Scriptwriter Kim Eun Sook has joined the project too.

Fans may cast their votes for Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo until Sept. 30.
