Fans of Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo of Descendants of the Sun and a rumored off-screen love affair are a little bit sadder Monday. That’s because the rumors of an engagement between the pair (a proposal was supposed to happen on September 19, Song Joong-Ki’s 31st birthday) didn’t pan out. At least publicly. Everyone who has been waiting with bated breath for the supposedly secretive couple to announce their real life love today is just going to have to keep on waiting.
As iTechPost reports, Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo didn’t get engaged on his birthday. They haven’t gotten engaged at all. And pretty soon, fans of the lovely South Korean heartthrobs may have to come to terms with the fact that the pair’s romance, rumored for months now, may have all been nothing more than a rumor of international proportions.
Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo co-starred in Descendants of the Sun, and their on-screen chemistry took fans in Asia and around the globe off guard. Their apparent attraction was so strong that people the world over began chatting about their apparent true love for one another. The rumors of the romance between the pair have gotten so strong that in the last several weeks, while rumors of the sequel Descendants of the Sun 2’s tumultuous path to the screen have swirled widely, there has been non-stop talk about the secretive so-called couple taking their romance public.
In the most epic way possible.
Song Joong-Ki was expected to go down on one knee (or something equally romantic) on Monday during his long-touted 31st birthday bash. Fans were waiting impatiently for a confirmation (perhaps with video and pics) that Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo had taken the bold step of taking their relationship public.
But the announcement never came. Now followers of the Song-Song super couple are starting to wonder. Many are saying that Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo were a couple, but have broken up. Others are saying that there was never a real romance at all, that the pair have only every been co-stars and friends. Some even believe that all the talk about the Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo relationship may have been a form of publicity stunt to help promote Descendants of the Sun.
If it was, it really did the trick. Fans all over the world have been hooked on the “are they or aren’t they” relationship of Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo for months now.
As of this moment, though, Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo still haven’t taken their love public as expected. And unless they’re keeping their engagement a secret as they’ve reportedly kept their love, the no birthday proposal went down.
Now, after the devastating realization that it’s after midnight in South Korea and no proposal took place, fans of Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo are connecting the dots of the pair’s possibly doomed (or maybe even never existent) romance, trying to figure out what happened. According to fans, the news that no Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo proposal took place comes on the heels that Song Hye-Kyo was publicly angry at her co-star and possible boyfriend. The South Korean beauty was reportedly so miffed that she stopped posting her regular posts on Instagram and even unfollowed accounts.
Reportedly, Song Hye-Kyo was a no-show at the 2016 Seoul Drama Awards, too. The reason for her conspicuous absence from the high-profile event? According to concerned and gossipy fans, she didn’t attend because she and Song Joong-Ki are no longer love interests.
It has also been widely reported that the much-anticipated Descendants of the Sun 2 has been canceled. The Gamers Drop reports that there is pervasive talk that the second installment of the fan-favorite series may not happen after all, and the outlet attributes the potential cancellation of the series to the break up of co-stars Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo.
One thing seems to be for sure; if Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo did break up, it’s unlikely that anyone will ever know exactly what went on between the super-private couple. If an engagement happens, the public probably won’t have a clue until Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo show up sporting wedding bands.
