Dallas Cowboys Score Big 27-23 Victory Over Washington Redskins

Getting the first win of the season is something that NFL teams always look forward to. According to ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys finally accomplished that this weekend by defeating the Washington Redskins by a score of 27-23. The team also got a good glimpse of the future, because Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott stood out.

Dak Prescott had a quarterback rating of 103.8 against the Washington Redskins. That would be impressive for someone that was a veteran in the NFL. It is even more impressive for someone starting their second game on the professional level. Though he did not throw a touchdown pass, Prescott played very efficiently.

Dak Prescott did manage to put up some points. He scored a touchdown via running. The former Mississippi State star has earned a lot of praise from those in the NFL for being very patient and poised in the backfield. At times, it looks like Prescott has been in the league for years.

After an uneventful NFL debut, Ezekiel Elliott finally started to make some noise. Against the Washington Redskins, the former Ohio State star ran 21 times for 83 yards. Elliott also managed to get a touchdown. His longest run was for 21 yards. Elliott is expected to put up much bigger numbers down the line.

Prior to signing with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent over the summer, Alfred Morris played for the Washington Redskins. The veteran running back had extra incentive to have a great game. Unfortunately for him, that did not happen. Morris ran five times for just seven yards.

One of the biggest discussions heading into the game between the Dallas Cowboys was the match up between Dez Bryant and Josh Norman. The former is considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, while the latter is considered one of the best cover corner backs around.

After the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, many were critical of Josh Norman for not covering Antonio Brown on every play. Many felt that if Norman was being paid approximately $75 million by the Washington Redskins, then he should not remain on one side of the field.

Against Dez Bryant, Josh Norman initially stayed one side of the field. Eventually, though, Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Joe Barry started having Norman shadow Bryant on defense. The Redskins were initially against the idea because they did not want to give away what they were doing on defense every play.

At the end of the day, Dez Bryant provided the Dallas Cowboys with seven catches. That was good enough for 102 yards. Even though Bryant did not score a touchdown, the threat in the passing game helped the Cowboys hold back the Washington Redskins. Bryant is going to want to be more involved this season, though.

With Dez Bryant being such a focal point for the Washington Redskins defense, it opened things up for Cole Beasley. The former SMU Mustangs star found himself open for five passes. Beasley was able to generate 75 yards, which forced the Redskins to back off against the Dallas Cowboys’ rushing game.

While it is very early in the season, there are a lot of fans overreacting to the standings in the NFC East. The New York Giants have won two games, while the Philadelphia Eagles have won one. Neither team has lost. The Dallas Cowboys have won one and lost one, while the Washington Redskins have lost both games they have played so far this year.

There is still plenty of time left in the NFL season, but the Dallas Cowboys have provided some hope to their fan base by beating the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon.
