Videos Show 23rd Street Explosion In New York City: Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea Security Videos And More Emerge

The below video from the security footage of Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea shows just how powerful the blast was on Saturday, September 17, when an unknown device exploded in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, in New York City.

Additional videos of the explosion in Chelsea are making their way online, as seen in the below video of the explosion from security footage, via a Daily Mail video.

On the fitness center’s Facebook page, the company noted that the explosion would cause the Orangetheory Fitness Manhattan – Chelsea center to close on Sunday.

As published to the Facebook page of Orangetheory Fitness Manhattan – Chelsea on Saturday, September 17, the health club wrote about being closed until further notice.

“Due to an explosion on 23rd Street, we will NOT be open on Sunday September 18th, 2016. Please stay tuned until further notice.”

The location of Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea is listed as 124 West 23rd Street in New York.

As seen in the above image, firefighters gathered on West 27th Street and 7th Avenue in New York as authorities searched for a secondary device seen in the area.

A pressure cooker was discovered, as reported by the Inquisitr, on 27th Street. It was not known if the pressure cooker was an actual IED or something merely fashioned to appear dangerous.

Meanwhile, the security footage video from Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea center shows two different vantage points of the explosion that rocked the Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan on Saturday evening that hurt at least 29 people.

Now called an “intentional act,” the explosion caused people to flee outside of the Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea location, as folks who were previously strolling casually down the Chelsea neighborhood street began to run in fear.

The inside view of the Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea security video showed debris raining down inside the Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea center, as the blast could reportedly be heard and felt from far away. The Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea video showed the damage and reverberation caused by the explosion. The video does not appear to have audio attached to the visual aspects of the footage.

Thus far, authorities have said there is not evidence of a terrorist connection for the Chelsea blast.

The discovery of the pressure cooker on 27th Street caused authorities to warn some Chelsea residents to stay away from their windows as they dealt with the removal of the device.

Although authorities are still being tight-lipped about their findings of any devices that caused an explosion, it is believed, as reported by CNN, that the device used in the blast caused injuries that have left at least one person in very serious condition.

The explosion occurred at approximately 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, on West 23rd Street in the Chelsea section of Manhattan.

Other videos from the explosion are making their way onto social media, such as the below video that shows an injured person getting help.

Now that security video footage has come to light from Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea — seemingly the first business to make their security video footage of the blast available to the public — people are having varying reactions to the explosion on social media.

Some of those reactions can be read below, along with the theories that are being posited in the wake of the Chelsea explosion.

“I’ve never seen the term ‘2nd device’ used in any scenario other than terrorism.”

“ explosion tested response times. Which means a larger attack will follow.”
