‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Season 2, Episode 12: What — Or Who — Will Ofelia Find At ‘Poco Cielo’?

Ofelia Salazar disappeared without a trace in Episode 9, Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead. So far, all fans know is that it is likely she took the group’s truck. But, AMC has finally released a sneak peek into what Ofelia will be up to in Episode 12.

Spoiler alert: This article discusses Episode 12 (entitled “Pillar of Salt”) of Season 2 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

Episode 12 (entitled “Pillar of Salt”) of Season 2 of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead will feature Ofelia. AMC has confirmed this via a sneak peek clip of the episode via their website.

The clip of Episode 12 of Fear the Walking Dead starts with Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) getting out of a truck, confirming she certainly did steal it from the rest of her group. Grabbing a hammer from the toolbox in the back, she shows just how naive she still is in the Walking Dead universe, because, really, that hammer should have been on the front seat with her.

Walking around the car with an air of despondency, she looks up at the building in front of her: “Poco Cielo.” This building advertises the fact that it is a hotel and restaurant. While she may have left the hammer in the back of the truck, she is smart when it comes to killing the infected. Breaking down the door, she quickly dispatches one of the undead inside. Then, she makes plenty of noise in order to entice any more of the infected out into the open that might be hiding away.

No one appears, so Ofelia walks further through into Poco Cielo. It appears she is looking for something, or is it someone? She sees something through a door, and walks through it to check it out. And that is where the sneak peek clip for Episode 12 of Fear the Walking Dead ends.

But why is Ofelia there? Why did she leave her group at all? A clue left in Episode 9 of Fear the Walking Dead may offer an insight.

Episode 9 of Fear the Walking Dead saw Ofelia and the rest of her group, Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), Madison (Kim Dickens), and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) enter a hotel that had been hosting a wedding reception when the zombie apocalypse hit. It is here that we learn Ofelia made a major sacrifice early on in her adult life. Instead of getting married, she chose to stay with her family as she didn’t want to move to New Mexico with her fiance and leave her family so far behind.

So just how far is New Mexico from where Ofelia ended up at the hotel at Rosarito Beach in Episode 9 of Fear the Walking Dead?

According to Google, it would take approximately 13 hours to drive from Rosarito Beach to New Mexico. But would Ofelia really travel this distance in the hope of finding her ex-fiance? Considering her family is now dead, perhaps she would. Also, an image from another teaser clip for Episode 12 of Fear the Walking Dead shows what appears to be Ofelia’s truck on a highway heading for the U.S. So, it seems she might be desperate enough to see if her fiance, William, is still alive.

However, a quick search for a hotel called Poco Cielo turns up one only a half hour from Rosarito Beach. So maybe Ofelia is really just trying to get away from it all in Episode 12 of Fear the Walking Dead? Of course, just because this hotel is very close to Rosarito Beach doesn’t mean it will be set so close in the TV series. Having two locations close to each other would make filming easier than actually having to film in both Rosarito Beach and New Mexico.
