Kyle Richards Goes From ‘Real Housewives’ To ‘American Woman’: Everything We Know About Her New Show

Kyle Richards is getting real about her real life outside of the Real Housewives franchise. The Bravo star is executive producer of the upcoming TV Land comedy American Woman, which is based on her real life growing up as a child star in the 1970s.

Kyle is doing double duty as she juggles her Real Housewives of Beverly Hills obligations with her new scripted series. Bravo.com posted a photo of Richards with RHOBH pal Lisa Vanderpump as they filmed in Mexico while Kyle’s husband, Mauricio Umansky, opened a new location of his real estate firm, The Agency. The RHOBH cast and crew flew to celebrity hotspot Punta Mita to shoot scenes for the Bravo reality show.

Richards also recently shared photos and video from the set of her new project as filming for the pilot episode wraps. The pilot episode for Richards’ scripted TV Land comedy series is titled “Liberation” and it was penned by John Riggi.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kyle Richards’ show is about a woman raising two daughters during the heat of the sexual revolution and the start of feminism in the 1970s. The single mom “struggles to raise her family” as she “sets out to claim her own brand of independence in a world not ready to give it.”

People reports that Kyle Richards has signed some A-list talent to her comedy pilot. Clueless star Alicia Silverstone will play Bonnie Nolan, a single mom of two daughters who finds herself alone and unemployed after her divorce. The character is based on Kyle Richards’ real life mom, Kathleen Dugan.

In addition, actress Mena Suvari will play Kathleen, Bonnie’s bestie who’s looking for love but settles for “boy toys” that exploit her. Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story: Hotel) and Jennifer Bartels have also joined the cast of the star-studded Kyle Richards pilot. According to Deadline, Jackson plays Greg, a charmer who works in casting at a major studio, and convinces Kathleen (Suvari) to invest in his new company. Bartels plays Diana, another bestie of Bonnie’s and a working woman who deals with sexual harassment at her workplace.

Kyle Richards and her cast have been keeping busy posting photos from the American Woman set and it’s clear they’ve got that ’70s look down.

As most Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans know, Kyle Richards is part of the Richards acting family. Kyle was a child actress in the 1970s, with roles in the late 1970’s horror flicks Halloween and Watcher in the Woods as well as a recurring role on the TV series Little House on the Prairie.

Kyle’s older sister (and fellow RHOBH star) Kim Richards was a Disney darling, starring in the Escape to Witch Mountain movies as well as TV series like Nanny and the Professor and Hello Larry. Richards’ older half-sister, Kathy Hilton (yes, Paris’s mom) had a brief acting career in the early 1970s with small guest parts on classic shows like Bewitched and Happy Days.

In American Woman, the character based on Kyle Richards will be 10-years-old, which is about the age she was when she appeared in Halloween.

Kathy Hilton and Kim Richards have not yet spoken about Kyle’s upcoming TV series, but there have been rumors that they aren’t all on the same page with it.

Last year, an insider told E! News that Kathy nearly uninvited Kyle to her daughter Nicky’s wedding because there is a lot of tension over the TV pilot based on the life of their late mom.

Kyle Richards’ new series is set to debut on TV Land in 2017. Take a look at the video below to see Richards talking about Real Housewives and her upcoming show, American Woman.
