Will There Be A Season 5 Of ‘Young & Hungry’?

It was on June 1 of this year that Young & Hungry fans got to enjoy the kick off of Season 4 of the romantic comedy starring Emily Osment as a young San Francisco chef named Gabi Diamond. According to Release Date, there were 0.53 million viewers who watched the debut of Season 4. Naturally, all of these eager fans of this romantic comedy have one question: Will there be a Season 5 of Young & Hungry.

Release Date believes Freeform has nothing to lose by moving forward with Season 5 of Young & Hungry as the series has done an incredible job of maintaining a steady rating. On IMDb, the series has a rating of 7.6 out of 10 based on the 8,400 user votes. The series has also gained 27 reviews from viewers as well as 4 reviews from critics, Release Date also reports.

According to Freeform, Young & Hungry is the No. 1 original scripted series of its time period targeting adults between 18-34 years of age. Statistically, the same number of viewers watch the premiere of Season 4 as the finale of Season 3. However, the premiere of Season 3 did have significantly more viewers than Season 4.

Ecumenical News speculates the announcement of a spin-off to this romantic comedy is bad news for the fans of Young & Hungry as the spin-off could take the place of the series on Freeform. Networks have proven it is possible to continue to air a main show while airing a spin-off as well with the most well-known example of this being The Vampire Diaries and the spin-off The Originals.

Ashley Tisdale (known for her role in High School Musical) will star in the spin-off, which will be called Young & Sophia. Ashley Tisdale has made a few appearances in Young & Hungry as Logan Rawlings. She will continue her role as Logan and become Sophia’s new boss. In addition to starring in the spin-off of Young & Hungry, Ashley is still the executive producer of both of these Freeform shows.

Despite the fact that Young & Hungry will be the parent show of Young & Sophia, Ashley does not want fans to expect too many appearances from the original cast to appear in the new series. This is largely because Ashley wants Young & Sophia to be able to stand on its own without the need of its parent show, cast, or following.

“It’s more of a standalone show,” Tisdale explained during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “There would be some times that we’d have guest appearances from the other show, but it’s mainly a standalone show. They’re two separate worlds.”

Ashley has also gone on to express how important it is to know that her character, Logan, is gay. She claims to love the idea of being able to play a leading lesbian role because it is something you just do not see too often in television shows. While it is not uncommon for there to be gay men and women in television shows, they usually don’t have the lead roles.

Ashley also reveals that she relates to her character Logan in a lot of ways because she is the head of a fashion line and her own set of cosmetics while Logan runs an online publication called Clic’k Media.

Release Date and many other sources are claiming there is no reason to believe Young & Hungry couldn’t be renewed for Season 5 because the series certainly did well enough. Freeform, however, has yet to make an announcement regarding Season 5 and the fact that there is a spin-off of the series in the works is causing some fans of Young & Hungry to assume the worst.

Do you think there will be a Season 5 of Young & Hungry? Will you be disappointed if there isn’t? Will you be tuning in to watch the spin-off of this romantic comedy?
