Through the first three 2009 pre-season games the Green Bay Packers offense looks amazing. Last night the first team offense put up 31 points on the Arizona Cardinals. Starting QB Aaron Rodgers threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns, while the Packers offense looks the best is a pretty weak NFC North. Granted it is only the pre-season but this offense is putting up some unreal numbers. One has to wonder what they will do to a team with a weak defense like the Detroit Lions.
Through three pre-season games the first offense of the Packers has scored nine touchdowns, and one field goal in 12 possessions. That is an unreal clip, and if it continues into the regular season the Packers will run away with the NFC North title.
After finishing the 2008 season a disappointing 6-10 it looks like Rodgers is ready to lead this team to the playoffs. The real scary thing here is the Packers spent much of their 2009 draft improving their defense. They drafted DT BJ Jaji and Linebacker Clay Matthews in the first two rounds.
They are in the middle of a switch from the 4-3 base defense to a 3-4 scheme that looks very well with Raji holding down the center of their D line. If their defense can improve half as much as their offense appears to this is going to be a very good year for the Packers.
