Lady Gaga Spills Secrets Of Taylor Kinney Split in ‘Perfect Illusion’ [Video]

This summer was the setting for one of the more surprising Hollywood breakups with Taylor Kinney and Lady Gaga announcing their split, after having been involved in a five-year romance. While fans have been left wondering what really happened between Lady Gaga and Kinney, answers may be forthcoming in the lyrics of “Perfect Illusion,” the latest song from Ms. Gaga. She opens up about that and more in recent interviews, dishing on her split from Taylor and her struggles with fame and mental illness.

What Does “Perfect Illusion” Have To Do With Taylor Kinney?

Daily Mail shares that Lady Gaga was especially open about what inspired her to record “Perfect Illusion,” sharing the news that the song is definitely about love and loss. Although she didn’t specifically cite Taylor Kinney by name, Ms. Gaga says the song is about the relationships between men and women, exploring that dynamic through to an inevitable end.

“It wasn’t love, it wasn’t love, it was a perfect illusion,” Lady Gaga sings in one part of the song’s chorus.

Lady Gaga adds that the song shouldn’t be experienced as a one-sided story. She wants men to be able to connect with “Perfect Illusion” just as much as women and adds that it’s her hope that, although the song is about the things that divide us, the song will actually help to build stronger bridges between men and women.

Since the split from Kinney, Lady Gaga has said she finds it difficult to meet new people. Ms. Gaga still makes friends, but she says it’s different than she remembers.

“[There are] so many fake things that are around us appear to be real…it’s almost impossible to decipher anymore what is authentic and what isn’t,” said Lady Gaga.

American Horror Story Star Lady Gaga Says Depression Left Her Feeling “Exhausted -Like I Was Dying”

Lady Gaga told The Mirror that fame caught her by surprise and she needed to take some time to adjust to it, which she reveals was the reason for her three-year hiatus between her last album and the upcoming release of her latest offering. “Perfect Illusion” is the first single from that album. Ms. Gaga reveals that she has had a long struggle with depression and anxiety and has had trouble managing the mental illnesses, even before adding the effects of her super stardom into the mix. She believes admitting to it and sharing the experience is important to leading a healthier life.

“I take medication. I’m not saying I feel good because of the medication – I wouldn’t encourage young people to take anti-depressants or mood stabilizers,” says Lady Gaga.

She still has her slumps, but the singer and actress says a healthy attitude and a thriving career help to keep her thoughts focused and away from dwelling on negative thoughts.

“I definitely look after my well-being,” says Lady Gaga.

So how does Ms. Gaga feel about the fame and the constant media attention now that she has taken the time to adjust?

“It’s the single greatest blessing of my artistic career, it’s wonderful.”

Lady Gaga, who is now 30-years-old, also shared that she’s happy to have left her 20s in the past. She had hoped she wouldn’t be as wild now that she’s older, but she’s surprised to find out she’s just as wild. One good thing has come from growing older. Lady Gaga says she is happy to have the wisdom gained in her 20s to help her reign in her wild side, now that she’s 30.

“I find in my 30s, I haven’t actually calmed down. I calm down for periods of time and then I’m actually worse – I’m more wild for a short period of time. It’s a little bit of both,” said Lady Gaga. “But 30 is fantastic because I feel like I have all the wisdom of my 20s.”
