‘The Flash’ Season Three: How Will It Be Different Than The Flashpoint Movie?

At the end of Season 2 of The Flash, we saw Barry go back in time to save his mother from being killed by the Reverse Flash. As comic book fans know, this event sets off the Flashpoint storyline that was used by DC Comics to reset and condense their universe. Fans of The Flash are rabid to see Flashpoint play out in live action as opposed to the animated movie. The problem is that the TV universe will not be able to employ the same story that was used in the animated movie.

The major issue with The Flash on the CW doing the Flashpoint storyline will be the fact that many of the characters from the comics and animated movie will not be available for use. In the movie, Batman, as Thomas Wayne, Cyborg, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Superman are all important characters that drive the plot. Due to Warner Brothers being picky about their movie characters being used on TV, we will likely not see any of these characters join Barry on The Flash to drive the TV version of Flashpoint.

It is not all bad, though. Having a fresh take on a critically acclaimed story could elevate the TV version of The Flash to even higher rankings. The Flash is one of the most popular shows on the CW, and fans have faith that the ones who put the show together will do the Flashpoint storyline justice. We do know that the timeline shift will impact all of the other shows in the Arrow/Flash universe. At Comic Con, members of Arrow confirmed that the timeline ripples would be felt on Arrow, but not in as drastic of a way as it will on The Flash.

Also at Comic Con, a season three trailer of The Flash was released to give us all a sneak peek of what we can expect. The trailer opens with Barry finally being able to come home to both of his parents. This moment will for sure be a tear jerker for the fans who have been clamoring to see Barry get some happiness and finally be able to see his parents again. The big issue comes with the fact that no one else in this timeline knows who Barry is.

His main love interest, Iris West, is shown to perhaps have an idea that the two of them are more important to each other than she knows. This perhaps is a nod to the fact that no matter what happens, true love will always win out, even if the universe is completely reset. Two main characters, Joe West and Cisco Ramon clearly have no idea who Barry is. This is no doubt going to be painful for Barry, since Joe was basically Barry’s father in the original timeline. The two have developed a bond that will be hard for the fans to see severed.

Cisco was easily Barry’s best friend in the original timeline. Cisco was the one responsible for making all the technology that helped Barry, as The Flash, save Central City from the metahumans and speedsters that were seeking to destroy the city and the world. It is not all bad for Cisco, though. In this new timeline, Cisco is seen to be the richest person in America. It will be very interesting to see how he became so wealthy.
