32-Year-Old Virgin Says She Is ‘Living The Feminist Dream’ Thanks To Celibacy

Kate Bryan, 32, says she has never had sex and that her celibacy has ensured she can live the “feminist dream.” Bryan, a devout Catholic, says that unlike many of her female counterparts having sex outside of marriage, she doesn’t have to waste “time worrying about waking up next to a stranger, contracting a sexually transmitted infection or missing a period.” Bryan says that maintaining her “sexual integrity” has ensured she can “spend all day, every day” doing the things she wants to do.

In an editorial posted in the Washington Post, Kate Bryan discusses her choice to practice chastity and celibacy, revealing that her sexual choices make it possible for her to fulfill the feminist dream. The 32-year-old Catholic says that she is still a virgin and is saving sex and all intimate contact for marriage. She notes that while her life has not panned out as she imagined as a young girl, she claims she loves her life thanks to her commitment to sexual integrity.

“When I was young, I always imagined I would be married by 25 and have a brood of kids. Jesus said in the Gospel of Matthew to “make disciples,” and I thought it would be cool to take that verse literally and have 12 kids. I wanted enough kids to fill a baseball team, a hockey bench and a big house full of love. That obviously didn’t happen. Or it hasn’t happened yet. But I love my life. I spent last weekend learning how to scull on the Potomac River. I have good friends, a great family, hobbies and one of the best jobs I’ve ever had.”

Kate says that thanks to practicing abstinence before marriage, she is able to live without the stresses that many women her age experience due to having sexual partners outside of marriage. Bryan says she is living a “fuller and better” life as she is able to do the things that she wants to do without hindrance. She notes that she isn’t burdened by the worry of “waking up next to a stranger,” getting pregnant, or contracting a sexually transmitted disease.

“I believe that I’m living a fuller, better life because of my commitment to sexual integrity. I spend all day, every day doing the things that I want to do, because I’m not wasting my time worrying about waking up next to a stranger, contracting a sexually transmitted infection or missing a period.”

Kate says that this independence and freedom amounts to nothing short of the “feminist dream” and that sexual integrity has provided a way to achieve what feminists have wanted for ages.

“The truth is, I am able to live the feminist dream because I’m not stressing over the things that sex outside of marriage often brings.”

Though Kate says her life is better due to her choice of celibacy, she does note that she does feel a “void” due to her lack of a husband and children and says that she does want to have sex some day. However, she says that that void is not worth giving up what celibacy and chastity provide, a life centered on freedom and love.

“Chastity isn’t simply the restraining of one’s desires, nor is it something you just practice before marriage and then disregard after the wedding. Chastity is a lifestyle, centered on freedom and love, that challenges all people to love themselves and to love others in the most perfect way possible.”

Kate’s freedom is focused on the fact that she can do the things she wants when she wants as she does not have a husband or children to consider in the equation. Likewise, she notes that the practice of chastity has made her love herself more and to love others in a way they deserve to be loved that does not hinge on sex. Therefore, Kate says she believes that her life is one that echoes what feminists have fought for throughout history.

“I am living the life that feminists throughout history fought for. Through the virtue of chastity — true freedom and the perfection of love — I am living the feminist dream.”
