Is Justin Bieber’s Romance With Sofia Richie Making Selena Gomez Depressed?

Justin Bieber and Sofia Richie’s romance may have come as bad news to Selena Gomez.

After feuding with Bieber over a photo of himself and Richie last month, the 24-year-old singer announced she was “taking some time off” from her career to address issues with panic attacks, anxiety and depression.

Although Selena Gomez told fans that her battle with Lupus was what led to her recent struggles, many have felt that there could be more to the story, and in a new report, a source claims Selena Gomaz “had a meltdown” after learning that Bieber was dating Richie. According to the report, Bieber iced out Gomez after he began dating Richie, which allegedly got the best of the singer.

“The more he ignored her, the more she freaked out,” the source told In Touch Weekly Magazine on September 7.

While Bieber is reportedly ignoring Selena Gomez as he focuses on his new romance with Richie, the source went on to reveal that he wishes Gomez well and hopes she will be back to normal after her unexpected career hiatus.

“Justin and his family are praying that she gets the help she needs,” a source close to Bieber told the magazine. “They just want Selena to get well.”

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber appeared to be staying close as friends just months ago when Gomez was spotted attending one of Bieber’s shows in Los Angeles. The former couple also seemed to have a civil relationship with one another in December of last year when they were spotted walking around Beverly Hills, California. However, as Bieber and Richie began dating, things between them took a very dark turn as they embarked on a vicious feud on Instagram.

After Selena Gomez told Bieber to stop posting photos of himself and Richie, he accused her of using him for attention, and a short time later, she called him out for cheating “multiple” times during their years long relationship. Bieber then took their fight one step further when he allegedly suggested that she had cheated on him with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik.

Weeks after her messy dispute with Bieber, Selena Gomez made her career break official.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” read Selena Gomez’s August 31 statement to People Magazine. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues,” she continued.

In the same report, an insider was noted as saying that Selena Gomez was not being treated for drug or alcohol abuse, despite what many reports have alleged in the weeks that followed her announcement. The source also claimed Selena Gomez was feeling relieved after announcing her tour would not continue to December as planned and said she was hopeful for her future health.
