A photo of Malia Obama sitting next to a bong with other young adults in the room leaked online while the 18-year-old was in Philadelphia over Labor Day weekend.
Malia, who’s taking a gap year before entering Harvard in fall 2017, was first photographed wearing a white T-shirt reading, “Smoking Kills.” She wore this while attending Philadelphia’s Budweiser Made in America Festival. The first daughter’s choice of clothing is believed to be in response to all of the headlines she’s made for having a wild, fun-filled summer. Everything reached fever pitch when she was recorded on video at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago smoking a suspicious cigarette alleged to be marijuana. A witness told Radar Online that she took the cigarette from a guy at the concert and puffed on it for about a minute before handing it back.
According to Perez Hilton, a photo of Malia Obama sitting by a bong was leaked online. The photo was supposedly snapped in Philadelphia at a home party. The teen is seen laughing it up with other people her age. She’s wearing the same “Smoking Kills” T-shirt and Harvard baseball cap that she had on in press photos.

It’s unknown where exactly the photo was taken, but Malia looks like she’s enjoying herself with others in the room.
Although the bong was seen in the leaked photo, there isn’t any confirmation that she smoked pot while at the party. The paraphernalia may have belonged to someone else.
When Malia Obama visited Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, last year, she was photographed near a beer pong table while attending a college party. The Snapchat photo was leaked with the caption, “Malia Obama was taking shots and playing beer pong at a party last night LOL.”
As Us Weekly reported, students at Brown University responsible for posting the images online apologized to President Barack Obama’s daughter. The title was “Sorry, Malia Obama” and was published in the university’s newspaper, the Brown Daily Herald. In it, the school addressed the stress that the first daughter must be feeling with the whole nation watching her every move and how students who took the photos were overly excited about the prospect of President Obama’s daughter enrolling at their college. Unfortunately, the photos emerged on social media and BuzzFeed published a story on it. The students responsible for the photo getting out were reportedly “surprised and embarrassed” by the whole thing.
The editorial printed the same sentiments many feel about the first daughter now that she’s always making news for her party behavior.
“Malia did not choose to grow up in the White House, and it is unfair that everything she does at just 17 years old is subject to such harsh scrutiny,” the October 2015 apology read in part. “While the chances of her selecting Brown have probably decreased since the publication of those articles, if she does ever come back to Brown, hopefully next time we will ‘have more chill.'”
Could that be the reason Malia chose Harvard over Brown University?
New York Daily News reports that while Malia was in Philadelphia over Labor Day weekend, she was at the music festival curated by Jay-Z and headlined by Rihanna. She was accompanied by Secret Service detail at the event. It was partly due to the Secret Service being recognized that drew attention to Malia being in attendance at Lollapalooza in late July when the Democratic National Convention was underway. They dressed casually, but didn’t fit in with the normal crowd.

It doesn’t look like Malia Obama is letting a leaked photo of her near a bong or rumors that she allegedly smoked pot get to her. She’s enjoying her gap year and is moving forward as a young adult.
