Phyllis Schlafly: Iconic Conservative Activist And Anti-Feminist Dead At 92 [Video]

One of the pioneers of the social conservative movements and a very outspoken anti-feminist, Phyllis Schlafly, has passed away, reportedly surrounded by loved ones.

According to a representative for her family, 92-year-old Phyllis Schlafly passed away Monday at her St. Louis home. Phyllis Schlafly has spent much of her life and the majority of her foray into politics speaking out about liberalism and, more specifically, feminists. Phyllis Schlafly worked diligently to prevent the Equal Rights Amendment and has been almost solely credited with preventing it from being ratified. That Amendment would have guaranteed equal rights for all Americans, regardless of their gender.

As CNN reports, the death of Phyllis Schlafly was confirmed on Monday evening by her “advocacy organization,” the Eagle Forum.

Already, the news of the passing of Phyllis Schlafly is resulting in some high-level condolences on social media.

Because of her controversial, anti-liberal and anti-feminist political views, not surprisingly the news of the death of Phyllis Schlafly has also resulted in some criticism of the woman and her work.

Despite being in her 90s, Phyllis Schlafly remained active in political and social causes nearly until her Labor Day death. Earlier this year, she famously endorsed Donald Trump for POTUS. Reportedly, not long afterward, her own daughter tried to have her removed from her position of power in the Eagle Forum. Apparently, the uber-conservative group doesn’t have much love for Trump.

Reportedly, after Phyllis Schlafly’s very public and controversial endorsement of Donald Trump, her daughter and other board members tried to stage a coup of the Missouri-based activist organization that she’d founded, including taking over control of the group’s bank accounts and other finances.

Despite the massive controversy surrounding anti-feminist icon Phyllis Schlafly’s endorsement of Donald Trump, he was among the first to share his condolences with her family and the world after the news of her death broke.

“I was honored to spend time with her during this campaign as she waged one more great battle for national sovereignty.”

In the statement regarding the death of Phyllis Schlafly, they touted her mission to “protect the family” and praised her for promoting traditional values.

“Her focus from her earliest days until her final ones was protecting the family, which she understood as the building block of life. She recognized America as the greatest political embodiment of those values. From military superiority and defense to immigration and trade; from unborn life to the nuclear family and parenthood, Phyllis Schlafly was a courageous and articulate voice for common sense and traditional values.”

While Phyllis Schlafly managed to secure the love of many conservatives over her decades of conservative activism, much of which were spent demonizing liberalism and the feminist movement, she was far less popular among liberals. After all, one of the shining moments of her lifetime of activism was blocking the Equal Rights Amendment back in the 1970s. She was also largely the foundation of the “religious right” movement in the United States, a political movement that has focused on limiting the rights of women, the LGBT community and non-Christians in the United States since its inception.

Because Phyllis Schlafly was so negatively viewed among liberals and even moderate conservatives, it is no surprise that Raw Story compiled a list of some of her most offensive (to the left, anyway) quotes. According to the publication, the disturbing collection of quotes “perfectly captures” the anti-feminist political philosophy of Phyllis Schlafly. Starting with a 2007 statement she made about marital rape and why she doesn’t think it exists.

“By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don’t think you can call it rape.”

She also had some controversial comments about the Violence Against Women Act, which made major strides in protecting victims of domestic violence.

“When marriages are broken by false allegations of domestic violence, U.S. taxpayers fork up an estimated $20 billion a year to support the resulting single-parent, welfare-dependent families.”

Phyllis Schlafly also didn’t believe that child support was a good thing for American children.

“People think that child-support enforcement benefits children, but it doesn’t.”

She also apparently had some Brock Turner-ish views on campus rape and who the real victims of college sexual assault actually are. Ironically, Phyllis Schlafly made this statement way back in 2014.

“It’s really dangerous for a guy to go to college these days. He’s better off if he doesn’t talk to any women when he gets there. The feminists are perfectly glad to make false accusations and then claim all men are capable of some dastardly deed like rape.”

Regardless of her controversial nature, Phyllis Schlafly was a huge social figure in America for decades, and in her passing will likely be missed by many.
