Threat Of Scary Clowns Luring Kids Into Woods Expands To North Carolina

The threat of creepy clowns luring kids into the woods has expanded to North Carolina a few weeks after similar incidents were reported in Greenville, South Carolina.

Two children have reported seeing a man dressed as a clown who tried to lure them into the woods by offering candy treats on Friday night, according to Winston-Salem police.

The creepy clown sighting was reported to have occurred at 1200 block of East 29th Street off Hwy. 52 at about 8:30 pm, as reported by CBS News.

The two children who reported to have seen the clown said that the suspect was wearing white overalls, white gloves, red shoes, red bushy hair, white makeup, and a red nose. One adult has claimed to have heard the clown.

The Winston-Salem police have responded to the report, but haven’t seen any signs of any clowns in the woods. Since the clown sighting report, police officers have been searching for the suspect, but so far haven’t found any evidence that could lead to the perpetrator’s arrest.

Four hours later, an unnamed caller reported seeing a clown about two miles away. The police made an attempt to locate the suspect but were unsuccessful.

It was only last month when residents of Greenville, South Carolina reported finding a note on their apartment doors warning them about clowns. Since then, numerous incidents of creepy clown sightings have been reported in the town.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, numerous cases of clown sightings have been reported in Greenville, South Caroline for the past couple of weeks. The police have conducted several searches and numerous investigations in the hopes of capturing the suspects but so far have come up with nothing. While unsubstantiated reports continue to pile up, Greenville police have been taking the reports seriously and have increased their patrols in the small town.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Master Deputy Ryan Flood urged the public to remain vigilant and to call 911 “if you see anything suspicious, anyone dressed up in a clown costume.”

The community is also encouraged to take photos or record video footage if they find anything and to turn the evidence over to the police.

“The clowning around needs to stop,” said Greenville police chief Ken Miller during a press conference Thursday. “It’s illegal, it’s dangerous, it’s inappropriate, it’s creating community concern.”

The first creepy clown sighting in Greenville was reported on August 21, when a citizen saw a “suspicious character dressed in circus clown attire and white face paint, enticing kids to follow him/her into the woods.”

The complainant, a woman, said that her son had “seen clowns in the woods whispering and making strange noises,” according to the police report.

The woman said that her son guided her into the spot where he saw the clowns. When they got there, she saw the clowns “flashing green laser lights” before they ran into the woods. Around 10:30 pm the following night, the complainant said her son claimed to have heard “chains and banging” at their front door.

More reports of clown sightings have cropped up since then. Children who reported to have seen clowns said that the suspects displayed “large amounts of money” to lure them into the woods. The children claimed that the clowns stayed in a small house located near a pond at the end of a man-made trail in the woods, according to a police report. But when the investigators went to the house to investigate, no trace of any clowns have been sighted.

Police in North Carolina said that they are aware of the similar incidents in South Carolina and are planning to increase patrols around 29th Street.
