‘Big Brother’ Legend Dan Gheesling Responds To Michelle Meyer’s Claim That They Are Related

Michelle Meyer didn’t fight to stay in the Big Brother house, but she had some fightin’ words as she exited the competition in one of the noisiest goodbyes ever. Before she headed to the jury house, Meyer accused Nicole Franzel of “floating her way to final two” and called out Victor Arroyo as being “the ultimate butt kisser.” But Meyer also made a more random revelation when she revealed that Big Brother legend Dan Gheesling is her cousin-in-law.

In an interview with TV Guide, Michelle Meyer explained why she name-checked the highly respected player who was the Big Brother Season 10 winner and Season 14 runner-up.

“I did this to do one last shebang to cause some chaos and paranoia [and] to have Nicole feel bad about evicting me since she’s a big fan of his,” Meyer told TV Guide. “Plus, I wanted to give him a shout out.”

Meyer, who’s a self-described Big Brother superfan, told Entertainment Weekly that Gheesling does actually live in her area, but that they are not related in any way.

“No, Dan Gheesling is not my cousin,” Michelle explained. “I did it to cause some paranoia in the house. Dan does live 40 minutes way from me.”

In a statement to Bustle, Gheesling gave Michelle credit for trying to shake things up on her way out the Big Brother door.

“I can appreciate Michelle’s creativity for trying to mess with the houseguests on her way out — but we are not related,” Dan said. “I’m going be at PAX on the West Coast this weekend, so I’m thinking about swinging by the jury house to meet my ‘new’ cousin.”

While Michelle Meyer pretended she was related to Dan just to throw a final dig at Nicole, it was just two years ago that Nicole herself compared Big Brother 16 Houseguest Derrick Levasseur’s game to Gheesling’s.

Derrick thanked Nicole for the compliment, but later in the diary room, he said that he didn’t like the fact that she had picked up on the comparisons because it could make the other houseguests think of him as a threat. Franzel later told Entertainment Weekly that Derrick was definitely “playing Dan’s game” by throwing competitions and making sure he remained well-liked by all of the other houseguests.

While Michelle Meyer tossed out Dan Gheesling’s name to stir up drama, she told the Hollywood Reporter that her all-time favorite Big Brother player is actually Ian Terry, the contestant who beat out Gheesling in Season 14.

Even though she was voted out with no chance of coming back into the Big Brother house, Michelle took pleasure in blowing up Nicole’s game a little bit with her exit rant. Meyer told EW that Nicole is “playing a snake game.”

“From day one, I knew she was going to be stepping up the game. Right away, she was a target of mine. Because she’s a super fan, I knew she’d be playing hard. I was close to her and then she wanted me gone.”

Michelle also admitted that she didn’t campaign to save herself because she thought she was safe from eviction. Michelle Meyer finished in seventh place and got beat out by Nicole and her showmance Corey Brooks, as well as Victor, Paul Abrahamian, and non-superfans James Huling and Natalie Negrotti.

“[It was] is definitely the worst game move ever and I look stupid as a super fan,” Michelle said.

In other words, cousin Dan would not be proud.
