Young Thug Tweets In Support Of Lil Wayne: ‘I’m Holding You Down’

Lil Wayne shocked fans over the weekend when he tweeted about possibly retiring from rap. In the wake of the rapper’s retirement tweet, many entertainers have come out in support of Wayne, with Drake and Chris Brown as some of the high-profile entertainers to come out in support of the New Orleans rapper amid his clash with Birdman and Young Money. The most jaw-dropping support came from Lil Wayne’s rival Young Thug, though, who tweeted about his love for Wayne.

“@LilTunechi I promise I’m holding u down no matter what… f**k the world and what they thinkfeel I’m with u for life, ur the reason I rap,” Young Thug tweeted before shooting off a follow-up tweet that said, “I just wish u could love me the way I love u big bro… ur my idol for life and I hope ur sorry for bashing me, not knowing how much I love u.”

Lil Wayne’s Atlanta-based rap rival then retweeted two of Tunechi’s earlier messages that said, “I’m good y’all don’t trip” and “ain’t lookin for sympathy, just serenity.”

Many hip-hop fans were surprised when Young Thug tweeted in support of Lil Wayne. The two rappers haven’t exactly been friends in the past. Even though he’s always been very up front about his love for Wayne and the fact that he was inspired by the New Orleans rapper, their relationship has been somewhat violent.

It was a friend of Young Thug’s who was sentenced to 20 years for shooting up Lil Wayne’s tour bus back in April of 2015. As Uproxx reported, Jimmy Carlton Winfrey pleaded guilty to five charges associated with the firestorm on Wayne’s tour bus after an Atlanta concert.

No one was hurt in the shooting of Lil Wayne’s tour bus, and it turns out the “Lollipop” rapper wasn’t even on the bus at the time. The shooting did reportedly cause $20,000 in damages.

When it was revealed that Winfrey was a friend and former road manager for Young Thug, there were attempts to tie him to the shooting. There was even some evidence at the time that Young Thug and Birdman may have been involved on some level, although both men denied any involvement in the attack. Instead, the shooting was tied to another Weezy enemy, Rich Gang. Interestingly enough, they have featured Young Thug in their music and have been signed to Cash Money Records and Young Money Entertainment.

Even though Young Thug wasn’t implicated in the shooting of Weezy’s tour bus, he has been very vocal about his wish for Jimmy Carlton Winfrey to be freed. That’s why it’s odd that in the wake of Lil Wayne’s beef with Birdman and his threats to retire from rap, presumably to escape his contract with Cash Money Records, that Thugger would post such a touching tweet to Lil Wayne where he proclaims how much that he still loves and supports his rap idol.

It seems that the bashing Young Thug is talking about in his tweet came after he released the Carter 6 mixtape back in 2015. Lil Wayne had been delaying his own album Tha Carter V, which still has not been released, presumably due to his ongoing beef with Birdman. So when his rap rival dropped his own mixtape that was obviously named after Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, it set the already upset rapper off. In the aftermath of Wayne’s outrage, Young Thug changed the name of the mixtape to Barter 6, but that doesn’t seem to have solved their beef.

With many artists coming out in support of Lil Wayne again as he continues to battle Birdman and Cash Money Records in order to remain relevant, Young Thug seems to still want to squash their beef. Will his proclamation of love for the New Orleans rapper be enough to bring the two artists together?
