‘Big Bang Theory’ Star Mayim Bialik Takes On Burkini Controversy In Tongue-In-Cheek New Video

Mayim Bialik spoke with Fox News last year about her choice to wear conservative swimwear. Now, the star of The Big Bang Theory has taken to her YouTube channel to weigh in on the burkini controversy by providing a “fashion show” of swimsuits designed to make “those around you” comfortable. In the clip, Bialik and her friends are wearing elbow- and knee-length suits, with bikinis on top. There are plenty of interested looks from a couple of men by the pool in the comedic video.

Back in 2015, Bialik told Fox 411 that she thinks of her children when choosing what to wear to the beach.

“It’s important, especially for children and men and my sons to hear I’m not ashamed of my body, I just don’t feel the need to display it with two tiny pieces of fabric when I want to go swimming.”

France recently made international news when several towns instituted bans on the burkini, a conservative form of swimwear that is commonly associated with adherents of the Muslim faith who choose to wear it. As The Guardian reported on Friday, a high court in France suspended the burkini ban in one town.

Mayim Bialik appears in the beginning of her video dressed in what she says she wears to the beach, a modest suit that covers most of the body except for the forearms and the lower legs. As Fox News quotes her in the video, Bialik rejected the idea that the burkini ban was about religion and asserted that it was really was more about women’s expression of sexuality. She goes on to describe her own choice of swimwear.

“I wear a bathing suit like this because I’m comfortable in it. I’m not uncomfortable with my sexuality. I’ve found that protecting certain parts of myself is actually empowering and it allows me to have control over interactions with other people, especially with men. It protects genuine intimacy for me, both publicly and privately, and that’s what I call empowering.”

As Bialik’s summer is coming to a close, she may be spending less time poolside and more time on the set of The Big Bang Theory. The actor, who plays Amy Farrah-Fowler on the popular show, shared an Instagram snap last week with her co-star Jim Parsons.

Entertainment Tonight reported that the gang got going with new tapings earlier this month, and Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki were using social media to celebrate the occasion. The Big Bang Theory is still popular as it enters its tenth season on the air.

Since the show has so far only been renewed through its current season, there has been plenty of talk as to whether this year will be it for new episodes of Big Bang. But E! Online reported in August of this year that CBS seems to be behind the show and is prepared to schedule an announcement about its future.

“We are very confident that everyone involved wants more ‘Big Bang’ past year 10 and I know Warner Bros. will make those deals.

“We’ll put it on for as long as everyone wants ‘Big Bang’ on the air. I hope it lasts forever.”

Last year, The Big Bang Theory averaged more than 20 million viewers per episode, making it network television’s second most popular program.

Cinema Blend published the synopsis of the Season 10 premiere, which will pick up right where the finale of Season 9 left off. After Leonard’s father and Sheldon’s mother share an evening together, the rest of the gang has to deal with the resulting awkwardness. As The Inquisitr previously reported, the show has finally cast Penny’s mother and brother, who will also appear during the first episode of the new season.

The Big Bang Theory season premiere will air Monday, September 19 on CBS.
