‘Bones’ Season 12 Spoilers: Eddie McClintock Confirms Return of Brennan’s Ex For Final Season

Bones Season 12 will throw in a special appearance of Temperance Brennan’s former lover into the popular crime drama on FOX as it bids farewell on your TV screens during its final season.

Tim “Sully” Sullivan, played by Eddie McClintock, will be returning for another spin in Bones Season 12 after he failed to entice Emily Deschanel’s character and the main woman of the show, Temperence Brennan, into taking a Caribbean cruise back in Season 2, TV Line reported.

McClintock, who has recently starred in several TV shows such as Supergirl and S.H.I.E.L.D., confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Brennan’s ex and expressed his excitement via Twitter.

According to TV Line, McClintock’s character in Bones was not recurring and was barely mentioned after Brennan declined his offer to cruise aboard a boat he named after her.

In Season 2, McClintock was tossed in with Brennan when Booth (David Boreanaz) is inactive thanks to a trip to the shrink. At the time, McClintock had just lost his partner in the FBI and was determined to live life to the fullest. Because of this, Sully “got too serious, too quickly” with Brennan, whom he decided that would be more than just his FBI partner.

Unfortunately, Bones was not quite thrilled with the idea of traveling by sea alone with a man, being the emotionally detached forensic anthropologist that she is.

Now, Sully will be returning in Bones Season 12 at a time when Bones and Booth are already happily married with two kids. Even so, fans are excited to see him with Bones again.

After more than a decade of solving murders through forensics, the long-running series has already reached its peak and is ready to bid farewell after Season 12.

In an official press release circulated prior to the premiere of Season 11, FOX bosses Dana Walden and Gary Newman revealed that Boneshad been renewed for a Season 12 but that will be its last one after more than a decade of airing what would be a total of 246 original episodes after the final season.

“In times like these, marked by instability and doubt, it’s comforting to know the world can count on at least one dependable beacon of stability. Apparently, that beacon is BONES,” executive producer and Bones creator Hart Hanson said, adding praise for the cast and crew of FOX’s longest-running TV series.

The cast, including Deschanel and Boreanaz who play the two main characters of the crime-forensic show, also expressed their gratefulness for the support they received from fans as well as from their Bones family.

“This is for the fans! Thank you to everyone at Fox and, of course, Dana and Gary – for all your support. Thank you to Hart, Stephen, Ian [Toynton], Michael and Jonathan. Also to the crew and cast for their countless support along the way! And I couldn’t have done it without you, Emily!” said Boreanaz.

“I am thrilled the show will have the ending it deserves for all of our amazing, loyal fans!” Deschanel pitched in.

Fans, though sad that their favorite show will be ending, are also happy at how Bones turned out, with some expressing their thanks and praise to the cast and crew of the show via social media.

Executive producers Michael Peterson and Jonathan Collier revealed how they wanted to give Bones fans the most fulfilling ending for their beloved show.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have another season, so we can give the show, characters and fans the end they so richly deserve.”

Peterson and Collier also created what they described as “the most rewarding Season 11 finale possible,” which revolved around Brennan’s nightmares about a serial killer who was aided by one of her previous interns.

Bones Season 12 is slated to premiere early in 2017 on FOX and will serve as a farewell season for the loyal fans of the show.
