Microsoft confirms Xbox 360 price drop, no Xbox Slim planned

Just because the PS3 went and shed a whole pile of weight, don’t think the Xbox 360 will be rushing to the restroom to stick its chubby fingers down its own throat. The PS3 Slim was announced last week to much hoo-hah, but Microsoft has already declared its console to be chunky and proud of it, and has ruled out a slimmed-down Xbox 360. There’s no identity crisis here, clearly.

In other news, Microsoft confirmed that the 360 was having its price slashed. I use “news” in the loosest sense possible there, because let’s face it: a Xbox 360 price drop was totally the worst kept secret in gaming since, well, the PS3 Slim.

From August 28th (tomorrow!), the Xbox 360 Elite will be priced at $299.99, while the Pro – the awkward middle child in the 360 family – is being phased out. It has already halted production, and any remaining models will go for $249.99.
