‘Titanfall 2’ Not Part Of EA Access Or Origin Access For Xbox One And PC

EA Access and Origin Access have turned into excellent values for Xbox One and PC subscribers. It appears that Titanfall 2 won’t be part of Electronic Arts’ two premium programs based on new information over the weekend.

The speculation that Titanfall 2 would not be part of EA/Origin Access started when it was noticed fine print excluding the game was added to the subscription service’s official FAQ page. This was then confirmed by a report from European game site Game Reactor, who received a statement direct from Respawn Entertainment.

So, what does this mean? It means Titanfall 2 will not have a free early access trial available prior to its release. It also means those interested in buying it will not get the 10 percent discount when purchasing any of the digital editions, though discounts for physical version can easily be found. Finally, this means the game will not be added to the Vault down the line for subscribers to download and play the game for free.

For those wondering why an Electronic Arts published game is not part of EA / Origin Access, it is likely due to the fact Respawn Entertainment is not owned by the publisher. It is technically an independent studio that is part of the EA Partners Program. This allows them to retain the rights of all intellectual property they produce.

Does this mean Titanfall 2 will completely be excluded from EA/Origin Access for all time? Not necessarily. The original title was part of EA’s program when the service first debuted in August 2014. The game was launched in March 2014 but eventually joined the premium subscription service in June 2015 as part of a promotion for the Xbox One.

This was not long after Titanfall 2 was first announced as a sequel to the original. The addition of the first Titanfall was part of the marketing to hype the release of the sequel.

In other Titanfall 2 news, Respawn Entertainment announced Angel City will be the first free DLC map to be released for the game via Twitter. The map was one of the more popular from the original release and highlighted the jet-pack assisted parkour free-wheeling gameplay. The Open Multiplayer Tech Test for the sequel came under criticism for a change to a more traditional three-lane map design. So, fans of the original style of maps will have at least one remake.

EA Access has turned into an incredibly popular and profitable service for Electronic Arts. During its Q2 2016 earnings call on October 29, 2015, CEO Andrew Wilson described EA Access as “accelerating,” with the subscriber base doubling in the two previous quarters. Digital revenue for the company during the quarter was $83 million. It’s unknown how much of that was from EA Access, but the company stated it is delivering “strong, sustained growth.” It recently added Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, SSX, Need for Speed, and Unravel to the Vault.

Origin Access features the same benefits and price as EA Access. The one difference is the selection of games is slightly altered to include PC-centric titles such as The Sims 3 and Sim City, while also filling up the lack of Madden with the Dead Space and Dragon Age franchise.

Neither EA Access nor Origin Access is available on the PlayStation 4. The console is the only major platform that receives Electronic Arts-published games without the option for owners to subscribe to the services. A PlayStation representative previously explained that Sony turned the service down for its new console because it didn’t provide a good value, as the Inquisitr reported.
