Sandeep Kumar Sex Tape: Indian Politician Could Face Life In Prison After Woman Shown In Explicit Video Claims She Was Raped

Sandeep Kumar’s sex tape scandal just got worse, with the now-fired Indian politician looking at the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison after one of the women featured in the explicit video claimed that she was drugged and raped.

The minister of the Aam Aadmi Party became embroiled in the controversy this week when the video emerged showing him in bed with two women. A CD with the sex tape, along with 11 photographs, was sent to a number of news outlets and directly to the office of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, NDTV reported.

Less than an hour after the video was delivered, Kejriwal had fired Kumar.

“Recd ‘objectionable’ CD of minister Sandeep Kr. AAP stands for propriety in public life. That can’t be compromised. Removing him from Cabinet wid immediate effect (sic),” Kejriwal tweeted just before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Sandeep Kumar sex tape quickly became an international story, with ABP News sharing some details of the video it had received.

“ABP News has Delhi Minister Sandeep Kumar sex scandal CD in its possession. In the 9 minute long CD, Sandeep Kumar is seen with two women. The CD contains pictures of Sandeep Kumar in compromising position with one woman. The other part of the CD contains a video with another woman.”

There could still be more trouble ahead for Sandeep Kumar. One of the women featured in the leaked sex tape has claimed that she was actually drugged and raped by Kumar. As the Quint reported, the woman claimed that she went to him for help getting a ration card.

In a video the woman taped herself, she explained that Kumar forced himself on her.

“I met him for the first time because I wanted my ration card to be made. He assured me that he will provide me the card but took me into a room where he forced himself on me,” she said in the video (via the Indian Express).

The woman said she was given a drink that was allegedly spiked, and after that, she was raped. Authorities have now registered a case under IPC Section 376 against Kumar, the Quint reported. Under Indian law, that could carry up to life in prison if he were convicted.

The complaint was lodged against Kumar on Saturday morning, and by the evening, he arrived at the police office in Rohini to surrender. The woman was taken to have a medical test performed, the Quint reported.

While Sandeep Kumar has largely stayed away from the media since his sex tape scandal broke this week, the Quint noted that he has stayed firm and denied that he was involved in any way.

“He was sacked after a CD that contained an ‘objectionable’ video landed at AAP’s office in Delhi. The Quint has access to the video that shows the minister in a compromising position, but editorially decided to not publish it. As the issue intensified, the sacked minister said the person in the video was not him. He also claimed he was being framed for being a Dalit.”

But while a number of politicians have spoken out against Kumar, others are defending him and criticizing Kejriwal for sacking him so quickly. As the Indian Express noted, party leader Ashutosh questioned why Kumar would be fired for what appeared to be a consensual act, saying that Kejriwal was just reacting to the public perception of what would become a scandal.

The woman shown in the sex tape with Sandeep Kumar allegedly told police that it happened close to one year ago and that she is also seeking action against the person who leaked the video.
