‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Justin Hartley Confirms Exit From ‘Y&R’ And Rumors Swirl About Michael Muhney Returning

The Young and the Restless fans have been speculating for weeks about Justin Hartley’s status on the CBS daytime drama. Justin had previously stated that he hoped to take a hiatus only to return to the show when the NBC show, This Is Us wraps filming. It looks like Justin ultimately decided to leave the role of Adam Newman behind him, and will not return, TV Line reports. For the past few weeks, rumors have begun to circulate that Michael Muhney could be returning to his previous role, now that Jill Farren Phelps has left the series.

The Young and the Restless fans never thought they would accept anyone in the role of Adam except Michael Muhney, but Hartley slowly made believers out of many fans. His portrayal of Adam was much different than Muhney’s. Justin’s Adam was much softer and not quite as dark. Michael’s portrayal was often dark and depressing and wasn’t afraid to go toe-to-toe with Victor Newman. They are both amazing actors and by all accounts, both portrayals of Adam were splendid.

Many Young and the Restless fans stated they had a feeling that Justin was leaving the show. It seemed like the “writing was on the wall” for a few months. Previously, he would engage with the fans and talk about his character, and the past few months, he stopped engaging as much. He seemed busy and his social media was all about his new show, This Is Us, and nothing about his current role of Adam Newman.

Headline & Global News speculates that Michael Muhney could be stepping back into the role of Adam, and could bring the Adam the fans know and love back to front and center. The Young and the Restless writers could place him in a heated cat and mouse game with his father, and maybe, he could be the one that finally see to it that Victor pays for his crimes. Michael has posted a series of cryptic tweets on Twitter, which doesn’t calm down the rumors of his return to the Young and the Restless. If he does return, it would be a rating boost for the series. The question is, would Muhney consider coming back to the soapy show?

The Young and the Restless issued a casting call for the role of “Dean” that seemed like a dead ringer for the character of Adam. At the time, many viewers urged Michael to audition for the role, because it seemed like a perfect fit. CBS has not revealed if they found Hartley’s replacement or when Adam would be returning on canvas. Judging by the current storylines, it could be months before Adam returns to Genoa City. Of course, we can assume that by the time he returns, Chelsea will have moved on and his arrival will throw her for a loop.

It isn’t too surprising that someone as talented as Hartley decided to leave the Young and the Restless for a bigger role. Justin stated in 2014 that he was looking for a series regular role in a primetime time slot. His recent primetime credits include Revenge and Mistresses. The Young and the Restless fans support Justin Hartley as he goes on to bigger projects, and will remember his time on the soap opera fondly. We hope his show takes off and becomes an instant sensation.
