Michael O’Hare, Commander Sinclair On ‘Babylon 5,’ Dead at 60 [Report]

Sad news, Babylon 5 fans. Actor Michael O’Hare, the sci-fi cult hit’s original station commander Jeffrey Sinclair, has reportedly died at the age of 60.

His death was announced by the Facebook page “Fans of J. Michael Straczynski,” apparently operated by the television creator and comic book writer himself. The announcement read:

“I regret that I must convey the sad news that Michael O’Hare passed away today. He suffered a heart attack on Sunday and was in a coma until his passing this afternoon. This is a terrible loss for all B5 fans and everyone involved with the show wishes to convey their condolences to the O’Hare family. He was an amazing man.”

O’Hare is most recognizable by fans of Babylon 5 as the show’s first season protagonist, Commander Jeffrey Sinclair. He was replaced in season two for the remainder of the show’s 5-year run by Bruce Boxleitner’s Captain John Sheridan, though O’Hare reprised his role through guest appearances in seasons two and three. According to Deadline, O’Hare appeared on many TV shows, including Kate & Allie, The Equalizer, Tales from the Darkside, The Cosby Mysteries, and Law & Order.

Though major news outlets have not picked up on O’Hare’s death as of this posting, several lesser (though still reputable) media outlets have (Deadline, i09). Additionally, the announcement through Straczynski’s Facebook page seems to indicate that this report is genuine, though we have still categorized it under “rumors” until more information can be verified.

Until then, our condolences to the family of Michael O’Hare, and we’ll be back to update on this story as new information arises.
