‘Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered’ Will Get Final 6 Maps For Free After Launch

When Activision announced Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered, it was learned that the remake of the classic shooter would only come with 10 maps. The outcry from the PS4, Xbox One, and PC communities was heard far and wide. The publisher and developer Infinity Ward responded Friday by revealing the rest of the maps will eventually be added.

Activision’s press release heralding the debut of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s beta and new multiplayer revealed the additional maps coming to the Modern Warfare remaster. The updated game will launch with 10 of the original maps with “Backlot,” “Bog,” “Crash,” “Crossfire,” and “Overgrown” confirmed thus far. The remaining six multiplayer maps “will be made available by 12/31/2016.”

This writer contacted Activision to get a clarification on whether the maps will be free or be some sort of paid DLC. The publisher’s representative explained, “Anyone who buys Legacy or Digital Deluxe additions (basically buys edition that includes Modern Warfare Remastered) will get all maps for free.”

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered will be a digital download and will only be available as part of the Legacy, Legacy Pro, and Digital Deluxe editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. A code will be included in each edition to download the game from the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, or Steam, depending on your platform.

The Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition costs $79.99, $20 more than the standard edition that does not come with Modern Warfare. There is also the Legacy Pro Edition, which comes with both games, a Season Pass, and a Steel Book case for $119.99.

The title is a complete remake of the original PS3 and Xbox 360 game and not just slapping on higher definition textures. Raven Software is keeping the movement, guns, and gameplay true to the original release while upgrading all of the visuals. Players can expect to see the game make the leap to the same level of fidelity as Black Ops 3 and Infinite Warfare.

The remastered Modern Warfare is currently being showcased this weekend along with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare at the Call of Duty XP event in Anaheim, Ca. The event runs through Sunday, September 4 and is available to watch via livestream for those that are unable to attend. Call of Duty channels on Twitch and YouTube will both showcase select events from fan event, as well as the Call of Duty World League Championship.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s multiplayer is playable for the first time, while the recently revealed Zombies in Spaceland co-op experience is also available for attendees to go retro ’80s with.

Additionally, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 fourth and final DLC, Salvation, will be playable at the event. Activision plans to have more than 500 gameplay stations installed at the XP event for fans to partake in the action of Infinite Warfare, Modern Warfare, and Black Ops 3.

A PlayStation VR experience will also be available on-site. Fans will be able to try to pilot the Jackal fighter jet from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare using Sony’s VR headset for the PS4.

Other activities include developer panels and Q&As with Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games, a Call of Duty armory and museum, photo booths, Nuketown paintball, and Zombies in Spaceland laser tag.

“There’s a ton of excitement here at Call of Duty XP. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Call of Duty fans to celebrate and enjoy everything this franchise has to offer,” said Rob Kostich, EVP and GM, Call of Duty, Activision. “We’re continuing the momentum from XP next month as fans around the world will be able to join us online to play in the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta, which will give fans a chance to play multiplayer early and will help us to further polish the MP experience as we head into launch.”
